PREFACE Cosmetic surgery transformed my happy, healthy life into a perpetual nightmare. Intelligent patients with realistic expectations have been victimized, then abandoned by surgeons whose true colors reveal themselves when surgery goes awry. .
My surgery at MGH Residents' Clinic, facelift & lower blephroplasty, and 8 weeks later, a rhinoplasty . Massive swelling after the nose job permanently damaged all soft tissue involved in the face/neck lift, and left my face a hanging sack of flesh, stretched and detached from the underlying muscles. I trusted the esteemed Professors of Plastic Surgery at MGH in their decision to perform my rhinoplasty 8 weeks after my facelift. The same doctors would never subject private patients to operations within this imprudent time frame, yet think nothing of using patients in the Residents' Clinic as human guinea pigs. In this duplicitous setting, even the most meticulous Chief Resident is forced, by his superiors, to use experimental techniques without knowledge or consent of the patient. This is the point in the young doctor's training where he learns the "high art" of deception from his renowned superiors.
When I expressed my concerns regarding the tissue damage and expected reasonable explanations, the doctors added insult to injury by saying I looked better. Outraged, I posted my photos online, asking the opinion of strangers, who unanimously agreed that I suffered a horrendous result. MGH promised to do a revision, waiving the surgeon's fee. My attempt to hold them to their contract resulted in a fabricated diagnosis of BDD by their therapist. My therapist's opinion is quite different. In 2002 I was sued by Dr. Joel Feldman when a patient canceled her surgery after viewing my photos online. Dr.Feldman and Mass General obtained a court order prohibiting my publication of misleading pictures. I obtained Documentation of my photos and appearance .No further action was taken. This lawsuit was an intimidation tactic to keep the TRUTH hidden from public scrutiny.
In April 2001, I went to Indianapolis where Dr. Barry Eppley performed a "revision" facelift to re-establish adhesion of the detached soft tissue. I awoke from this operation, with my tongue blocking my airway, constant pain & pressure in my ears, tinnitus, inability to lift my head or close my mouth, difficulty breathing and swallowing. Five years later, these problems have progressed to a degree which threatens my ability to survive. Photos: Dr. Eppley's Neck Gridlock Dr. Eppley's operation destroyed my health and my life. Dr. Eppley's haste, poor judgment and lack of skill condemned me to a prison of physical pain beyond anything imaginable.
