Tradewinds 26 / Fairwinds 27

What's the Difference?

Let us first discuss the keel.  When Luger built the Fairwinds 27, they raised the deck 15 inches higher than the deck on a Tradewinds 26.  The Draft, keel up, extended the same amount on each but the ballast increased 100 lbs. Draft keel down on a 26 is shown at 66 inches.  Draft keel down on a 27 is 81 inches.  Due to its longer length  the keel cable on a 27 comes up thru the hull 15 inches farther back than on the Tradewinds 26.  The keel cable winch and and keel tube on a Tradewinds 26 was therefore place in the cabin at the companionway.  On the Fairwinds 27, the keel cable winch and keel tube are placed aft of the companionway in the cock pit.
