Question:  I can't find a serial number on my 1970 Leeward 16.  Was there a stamped number on the transom, or was it molded into the fiberglass as many manufactures do?  I haven't been able to find a number anywhere on my Luger.

Answer:  Luger Industries and many other boat manufactures were not required to have serial numbers until 1973 IIRC. Boats sold before that didn't have any numbers. I was told by my helpful government official at the State Watercraft Agency that I would have to obtain a ser. # or the state of (Nebraska) would issue one (for a fee of course).  When I protested, they said that boats built before 1973 were "grand fathered" and I would not be required to have one.
