| Make a 1 Percent Solution Using 10% Iron Chelate Add 100 grams of 10% iron powder and fill bottle to 1 liter of water - this is the proper way to make a 1% mixture. NOTE - Since the iron is only 10% by weight in the powder, you have to add 100 grams into the 1 liter of water to get the 1% Iron solution. ALWAYS Use distilled water when making an iron solution - solution needs to remain acidic so it does not break down over time. Dosing - dose 1 to 2 ml for each 10 gallons of water to equal 0.1 to 0.2 mg/l of Iron concentration Make a 1 Percent Solution Using 7% Iron Chelate Add 130 grams of 7% iron powder and fill bottle to 1 liter of water - this is the proper way to dilute a 1% mixture. NOTE - Since the iron is only 7% by weight in the powder, you have to add 130 grams into the 1 liter of water to get the 1% Iron solution. ALWAYS Use distilled water when making an iron solution - solution needs to remain acidic so it does not break down over time. Dosing - dose 1 to 2 ml for each 10 gallons of water to equal 0.1 to 0.2 mg/l of Iron concentration Worksheet need a small accurate scale to really calculate the amounts. I do not know how much a volume of the 10% iron chelate weighs. Once you get the weight per volume then it is easier to calculate.
for example lets guess that a tsp of 10% chelate weighs about 7 grams ( probably a little high???)
then add 6.5 tsp x 7 grams = 45.5 grams into 1 liter of water
Divide the 45.5 grams by ten because the dry powder is only 10% iron so that is 4.55 grams of actual iron
1000 mg = 1 g. So there are 4550 mg of iron in the 1 liter of distilled water or a concentration of 4550 mg/l
Now for dosing lets keep this in liters for now 1 ml of 4550 mg/l solution dosed in 1 liter of tank water ( 1000 ml) = a concentration of 4.55 mg/l 1 ml into 10 liters of tank water = .45 mg/l 1 ml into 20 liters of tank water = .225 mg/l 1 ml into 40 liters of tank water ( about 10 US gallon) = .11 mg/l
or add 2 ml of this above stock solution to 40 liters of water = about .22 mg/l
all this is based on a guessed weight of 7 grams per tsp - if someone can weigh their chelate mix that would give a better estimate |
