THE NAME LIVE GIG
The turnout at the Greyhound to see the Name was pretty poor. This may have been due to poor advertising or apathy on the part of any support they have in London. They were up against a crowd that didn’t really respond to either band that night yet they still produced a really great set of some fourteen numbers’, of which only two are covers.
They kicked off with “Fuck Art Lets Dance” a strong, melodic number, followed by. “Train” and. “Take Me Time To Forget Her”, running through good number’s such as. “Your Gonna Lose That Girl”, (released in April Dindisc) climaxing their set with the fast. “Chasing You”, the soulful.“Tough To Cry” followed by one of the best versions of “In Crowd” that I’ve ever heard, ending with “Misfit”, a fast powerful song destined for the B side of the single.
Finding fault with the band is hard-their highly distinctive presentation of their music with it’s heavy 60’s soul influence is brought alive by the excellent fronting of Ben McNight who definitely adds to the bands tight, confident overall performance. There may be too much soul for some, but it doesn’t detract from their highly exciting sound. Personally I would compare them to the Killermeters or Secret Affair and they’re well worth seeing when next in London
More on The Name soon including drummer Joe Maccolls views on the revival amongst other things.
