THE MAKING OF M*A*S*H Through M*A*S*H's running the entire 11 seasons, all the scenes were shot in only two different spots. All the interior shots were taken at Studio 9 on 20th Century Fox's Studio in Hollywood. All the exterior shots were taken at the Fox Ranch in the Santa Monica mountains area of California. It is very easy to tell what scenes were shot where. If the scene is dark and it sort of looks like fake light, then it was shot at stage 9. If the scene is outside and during the day, it was normally at the Fox Ranch. The Fox Ranch was either sold/given away to the state of California and they renamed it Malibu Creek State Park. During the shooting of the last episode there was a forrest fire where the set was and it practically burned down the whole set. They went ahead and wrote it into the script. You can visit the set today by going to the park and taking a 3 plus mile walk back to the set. There you will find a burnt jeep and the concrete slabs on which the buildings were laid. Back in the late 70's they made a film called "The Making of M*A*S*H" which put you behind the scenes of the filming of M*A*S*H. If you've never seen that program I suggest looking for it, because it is one of the most in depth documentary films I have ever seen made on a show.
