| Next we need to prepare the picture and promote it. Look at your layer palette, if the Layer says, "Background" (see pic below) Then you need to RIGHT click on that and click where it will say "Promote Background to Layer" If you don't when you try to delete the white it will simply fill it in with another color. (silly thing eh?) (See pic below) You will need the "Freehand Selection Tool" this can be located on the left side palette under your "Selection Tool" (see pic below) This tool can be a bit temperamental at times so when using it MAKE SURE you only click ONCE at each point. You will see in a minute what I mean about points. If you DOUBLE click it will assume you are done and will select what you have already. Next so that we don't get a funky edge, I always set my options to feather a bit. This way your edge around the selection will blend a bit and not give you such a choppy outline. To do this Look towards the top of your browser for where it will say "Feather" and set that to at least 2 and have anti - alias checked. (see pic below) Now I recommend you ZOOM in on your picture to about 200% (depending on the pictures size) this will help you to see better where you should click while selecting. To Zoom go up to View>Zoom in by 1 - do that a couple of times to get it as large as you can, yet ensuring it's not so large that you can't see the ENTIRE part of the picture you want to select. (see pic below) OK Now you are ready to start selecting. To do this you will locate a spot on the outer edge of the object you want to keep and LEFT click ONE time, then move your cursor to a new spot and Left Click ONCE, continue this until your object is COMPLETELY surrounded. As you click you will be able to see a thin line showing your path. You are in a essence connecting the dots, I placed red X-es on the pic below to give you an idea of how to place each Left Click. If you look closely you will see the selection line. (see pic below) Again continue selecting until you have the object COMPLETELY Surrounded. When you do then DOUBLE CLICK and this should set those ants a marching. (see pic below) Now we go to the top part of the frame surrounding the pic (blue bar on my pic) RIGHT CLICK on that and choose COPY. (see pic below)
Now anywhere on the Blank part of your PSP workspace RIGHT CLICK and choose Paste as New Image. (see pic below)
