Agian your money has gone bye -bye you pay county tax twice every time you pay for stormwater then again when it comes out of the town budget.

Ron Jones should appear tonight to collect yet another year of stormwater payment. It is pretty much a sure thing by now. After all the people don't need to be asked. Check to town talk and ask what this double county taxing has done for Malabar. Town Talk
2003 update:
Once again a resolution passed to continue the tax. No benefit to the town has taken place of any merrit.
2002 update: So far as reported not a thing has taken place of any consequence. A report from the county site says:
The Town of Malabar:
The Town of Malabar has recently established its stormwater utility. A St. John's River Water Management District grant is currently being used to develop a stormwater masterplan for the town that will identify areas in need of improvement and make recommendations to correct water quality and quantity problems.
Remember in August 2002 the council will rubber stamp the third year of collection. The expert help we were supposed to receive may have bought nice public relations brochures or maybe some office equipment at the Viera office and possibly helped to pay salaries and county overhead, but hasn't done anything physically to help drainage. Unfortunatly the Town seems to be responsible for all work and uses grant funding unrelated to this stormwater utility tax assessment ???

Stormwater Tax
Well as is the case every year your Taxes go up. The question is are you better off for your payments?
Last year (now Y2K) a stormwater tax (that's right Tax) went through in spite of great opposition and no vote from the people.
How much money was collected and what drainage improvements have taken place?
Check it out on the town
website, no doubt we won't hear anything until renewal time. At That point, a few weeks from now, the claim will be that a lot of preparatory work has gone on in the background and if we just stay with them one more year all sorts of things will happen. This year this assessment tax is new, please remember the rates may be increased in the future and it may be too late to say no. Council may wish to consider getting out of this deal which goes into the county pocket. If the people wish to tax themselves to improve drainage we should be presented a clear referendum to vote on. We would then be able to negotiate with the same authority and pay as we go.
