How to Speed up your Website Connection

Here's a trick to improve general browser efficiency.  If you have a cable connection, you won't need this, but if you have a modem/dial-up connection, you should find all your site connections much faster and your online time not wasted. It's quite safe to do it, there's no need to go offline to make the changes and it only takes a minute or two complete the process. You don't even have to to restart your computer to start seeing the benefits.

  • go to top right of screen and left-click on the minus sign (-) to minimise the browser window and show your desktop icons.

  • right-click on the My Computer icon and left-click on Properties
  • In System Properties, select the

             Device Manager tab

  • go down to Ports (COM & LPT) and left-click on the cross (+) to the left to display the list

  • left-click on Communications Port (Com1) and select the Port Settings Tab

  • go to Bits per second and click on the drop-down arrow.

Select a mid-range number and click OK. That's it.

You can trial all the speed selections quite safely. Occasionally, the highest settings may present a problem with dialup, if your modem can't keep up.

If you have any trouble connecting up after changing to a higher setting, just follow the process again, selecting the next lower number until the problem disappears.
