Everyone and their parents were born in Louisiana. Then the 1880 census shows Irvey Burleigh, age 6 is the son of August who is age 27 and Adlea age 20. Other children are, Robert 3, Joseph 2.

MELVILLE - Funeral services for Mrs. Sophia Dunn Burleigh, 86, will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, at the First Baptist Church of Melville. Dr. Burn Page will officiate the services. Burial will follow in the First Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Burleigh died on Saturday, Oct. 9, 2004 at the Opelousas General Health System. She was a resident of Melville, a life-long member of the First Baptist Church of Melville and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star-Fidelity Chapter.
Survivors include: one son, Paul Edward Burleigh and wife, Dottie Burleigh, of Melville; one daughter, Sheila Reagan and husband, Dr. Gene Reagan, of Baton Rouge; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Irvin Burleigh; and her parents, Valentine Dunn and Hallette Berlin Dunn; four brothers, Ernest Dunn, Herman Dunn, Cedric Dunn and Vernon Dunn; and five sisters, Maple Downs, Vera Edwards, Nettie McCann, Leslie Belgaurd and Keitha Tyler.
Visitation will be held 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. today (Sunday) and from 8 a.m. to time of service Monday in the First Baptist Church of Melville. A visitation for the family will be held from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. today. Sibille Funeral Home of Opelousas in charge of the arrangements.
