Tom Butler Jr. provides the history of the "Kell bus" that a reader mentioned as running from Melville to Simmesport: "Keller Bus Lines of Bunkie was owned by Charlie Keller, a Dodge dealer, who with his son (and my father) Tom Sr. and myself drove the Dodge tractors to Wayne, Ind., and had Wayne bus bodies installed.

"During the '40s, these buses plied the roads of central Louisiana, connecting with Trailways depots, sort of like today's feeder airlines."  http://melvillehighschool.us/viewpoint

Hello,  How interesting the things you remember. How about the Watkin Man, or buying ice cream along HWY 105 North from Johnny Gerace for a nickle a cup, if you had a nickle. A walk down Bayou Rouge Lane with your fishing pole over your shoulder or owning a shot-gun at 12 years old. Yes those were some memorable good times. Oh! Riding the Kell Bus from Melville to Simmesport @ 7 years old alone to visit your grand parents. Yeah those were the times.

Hello,

I have really enjoyed this site. Glad I found it. I also went to Melville High and graduated there in 1976.

Hope to see some old classmates from there. Keep up the good work.

My mother and her family are from Melville. She was born in 1925 and live there until about 1945. Her maiden name is Ruby Lashute. If any has any stories about her or her family during that time, I sure would like to hear them. I can be emailed at tmoore123@houston.rr.com

Hi Everyone,

I currently reside in Melville. After marrying Rose Maddie and serving six years in the Air Force, Rose and I moved back to Melville and raised our three children: Michelle, Melissa and Michael. We have been and will remain citizens of Melville as long as we can. I enjoyed seeing some familiar names on the Guest List for this site and hope mine and Rose's names appear there also. Keep up the good work. Rose and I have been married 33 years now and hope to remain so another 33. Interestingly enough I served as Alderman for a brief time in Melville and resigned for unspecified reason.

GOD bless you all, Lawrence Naquin

My sister, Norma White Jenkins, a MHS graduate, and her husband Guy just introduced me to the MHS site. It's been fun checking everything out. For background, I lived in Melville from about 1950 until I graduated in 1961. I hope to hear from some of my old Melville friends and classmates.

Well, I'm learning more about this site as I go.

Again, glad to find the site.
