Had a great time exploring this site, brought back many good memories.

My parents are Jewel Cason & Enid Elua Evans Westbrook. My sister was Sandra Lee Westbrook Anderson. Can remember coming to Melville during the summers to visit my grandfather Oscar F. Evans. Our home is behind the Catholic Church. My father is living in Galveston, Texas now at the age of 94.

Both of my parents attended Melville High School. My Dad was the Master of the Masonic Lodge a number of times.

My Dad and Grandfather worked building the RR crossing there.

Funeral services for Jewel C. Westbrook were held Friday January 12, 2007 at 1:00pm in the Lafond-Ardoin Funeral Home.

Burial was held at the Methodist Cemetery in Melville. Rev. Dale Hensarling conducted the services.

Mr. Westbrook, age 96, a resident of Wataugo, Tx. died Wednesday January 10, 2007 at 10:36pm at The Alterra Sterling House in Watauga. He was the son of Ira Lewis and Clara Cason Westbrook Sr, having been born on December 29, 1910 in Melville, St. Landry, Louisiana. Mr. Westbrook was orphaned at an early time of life and was tossed from aunt to aunt.   He overcame these obstacles becoming a star athlete and an honor roll student

He retired from Exxon Pipeline Company after forty years of service, the last of which was head of oil movement and measurements for the southern half of the United States.  At his retirement the President of the company praised Jewel as being no less than twenty years before his time.  His favorite pass time was reading, however, given the opportunity he loved going fishing with his children.

Jewel was a Master Mason, Shriner and member of the Scottish Rite Order for over sixty years.  He served for several terms as Master of the Melville Lodge. He was known and liked by all who came in contact with him, possessing the most highest integrity.

Mr. Westbrook is survived by his wife Mrs. Cleo B. Westbrook of Tarrant County TX and a son Mike Westbrook and his wife Frances X. Westbrook Sr. of Bernice LA.

He is also survived by his grandson; Michael D. and his wife Carla M. Westbrook II of Denham Springs LA and two granddaughters, Melonie J. Dawson of Livingston LA., and Michelle L. Porche of Jarreau LA, three great grandsons; Joseph M. Westbrook, Chaney and Dillon Dawson and two great granddaughters; Maria C. Westbrook and Shelbey L. Porche

He was preceded in death by his parents; Ira Lewis Westbrook and Clara Cason his first wife of over 55 years, Enid Eula Evans Westbrook and his daughter; Sandra Lee Anderson, two brothers; Ira Jr. and Lee Alvin and one granddaughter Angela Westbrook.

Visitation was on Friday, January 12, 2007 from 10AM till time of service.
