| What is... Metal geaR Solid Metal Gear Solid is a very successful video game created by a Japanese man called Hideo Kojima, along with some others at the game developers; Konami. It might also become a motion picture too (but don't get your hopes up)... The game came out in 1998 for the Sony PlayStation, and then the same game came out in 2000 for the PC. It was, and still is a very popular game and has sold millions worldwide. The plot of the game is this; You are a retired soldier called Solid Snake, who was once a member of a group called FOX-HOUND. Although retired, he is called back to action by old war buddy, Colonel Roy Campbell. Snake has to infiltrate an island in Alaska's Bearing Sea called "Shadow Moses Island", because a group of six terrorists have stolen a huge walking tank by the name of "Metal Gear Rex" and are planning to launch a nuclear warhead from it if the White House doesn't give into their demands. Snake has to destroy Metal Gear before it is too late... Metal Gear Solid has an engrosing plot and is not all as it seems (don't trust all your allies) and has unique graphics, great gameplay and brilliant music. MGS is regarded by thousands of people to be the best game ever... and I would agree with that! So good in fact that it was remade with enhanced graphics and gameplay for the Nintendo Gamecube, named Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes. Not a lot of people know that Metal Gear Solid is actually a sequel. It has followed on from a game called "Metal Gear" which came out for the MSX2 and NES in the late 80s, which then was closely followed by "Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake". But Snake returned for action in "Metal Gear Solid", and came back into the gaming world in late 2001 for "Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty" on the PlayStation 2 which was then improved when a better version (Substance) came out instead. Substance was the same as the original Sons of Liberty, but there were a few cool extras added to the game as well as hundreds of levels of VR Training! Snake soon returned to the gaming world with MGS3: Snake Eater and followed on the next Sony conole, the PSP with Metal Gear AC!D 1 and 2. Shortly he will return for Sony's latest console, the PS3 with MGS4: Guns of the Patriots!
