Preface

The Mid-Atlantic Blues Society has started its activity since May 14, 2002 by Heeday through the MSN Community site in purpose of promoting contemporary blues and local blues scene in the Mid-Atlantic region, including, from north, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia.

Introduction

Heeday, the originator of the society, is addicted to blues and its passion since he saw B.B. King and Buddy Guy's jam session (it was called "Japan Blues Carnival") in a small club in Tokyo back in 1997.  Up until then, he was believing and never doubt that the 60s and 70s rock (so-called "Classic Rock") is the ONLY music that completely and perfectly satisfies him.  Of course, he knew and was enjoying blues-rock (or white blues) even before he saw B.B. and Buddy live.  Yet, he did not know how to appreciate good time (pre-war) Delta blues or Chicago blues till the day he saw B.B. King and Buddy Guy right in front of him.  He owes big thanks to Mr. King and Guy for turning him onto another great music, BLUES.

Purpose

With his strong passion to blues music, he believes that great heritage and history of blues should not be forgotten, and should be taught to the next generations.  Upon his belief, he is hoping to promote contemporary blues scene in some ways through the "Mid-Atlantic Blues Society."

Join & Sign In

It is probably easier if you use a Hotmail or Msn email address to join the site as it is a MSN-based community.  If it is your first time to visit here, and if you want to join the site, click onto "Join Now" that you see on the very top left of the screen in the blue-colored margin.  It takes you to a screen to punch in your email address and password.  Please follow the intructions there.  Please note that there is NO membership or annual fees to be a member of the Mid-Atlantic Blues Society.  This is the place to promote contemporary blues through members' active discussions, but not to raise fund.  So, feel free to join us.

If you are coming back here after you applied your membership, please make sure that you are signed in by checking if you see your nickname that you chose on the top right of the screen saying "Welcome Your Nickname (member)."  If you don't see your nickname there, you have to sign in.  The easiest way is to sign in from your email... either hotmail or msn.  Once you are signed in, you will see a link that says "People&Chat."  If you click onto the link, you will see a link to the Mid-Atlantic Blues Society.  In this way, you are fully signed in, and you can use all the features, including posting new discussions, replying back to some existing threads, among others.

How This Site Works

One way he came up with in order to achieve his purpose is to promote talented local artists with whom he is familiar.  He made a column called "Local Artists" where he introduces his favorite local blues artists.  Please feel free to add your favorites under "Local Artists" if you are familiar with any talented acts in Mid-Atlantic area.  Your additions will be greatly appreciated.

In addition, he is hoping to promote some contemporary national blues acts through "Blues Now" discussion column.  If you are familiar with any local artists outside of Mid-Atlantic region, they fit right in this discussion column along with national acts.  Also, this will be the board for us to discuss contemporary blues artists... what you think of this artist, and so on so forth.

"Blues Classics" is another discussion board that is open for members of the Mid-Atlantic Society to freely discuss their favorite classic blues artists.  It is a fairly new column (added as of September, 2002), so you don't see very many discussions there.  So, feel free to add your favorite artists if they are not mentioned under the discussion board.

"Blues Reviews" is another discussion column we have.  Heeday is hoping to use the board to share his concert and/or blues album reviews.  You are also welcomed to add some reviews to the board.  This board will be somewhat for general purposes... in other words, open discussion space.

"Blues Clubs" "Blues Events" and "Blues Radio" columns are dedicated to Mid-Atlantic Region.  If you are living in NY, NJ, PA, DE, MD, DC, or VA, these columns may be greatly helpful to look into some local blues scene.  Heeday will try his best to update these pages as soon as he finds something new.

"Concert Archives" and "Music Samples" are pages that Heeday posted many archives and audio samples (only full-length, no 30-second samples) that were available at the House of Blues (HOB), Washington Post MP3, among other web sites.  Again, Heeday is hoping to promote contemporary blues artists, but not to violate their (including HOB, Washington Post, and most importantly artists') copyrights.  If you ever listen to any of the samples or archives, please share your thoughts... what you thought about this artist and stuff under the existing discussion boards.  This is the way to make the active discussion boards.

Along with the discussion boards, Heeday posts "Pictures" of contemporary blues artists: both national and local acts.  He believes that this is another way to introduce talented artists.  You are also welcomed to add pictures you took to the column.  However, please do not steal images/pictures from other sites without their permission.  That is clearly against the copyright laws.  If you are interested in using any of his photos for publications, internet sites, among other purposes, please read "Photo Work" column and get in contact with him through personal E-mail.

Heeday is still thinking how to use the "Documents" column.  He first thought that he should write a monthly bluesletter or something, but he didn't see any difference from posting messages on the discussion boards.  So, he's stuck now.  You may be able to come up with some good suggestions.

Please sign in the "Guestbook" by the way.  Provide some suggestions, advices, and so on.  Your opinions make the Mid-Atlantic Blues Society a better one!

"Blues Links" page lists links to blues magazine sites, blues recording lables, etc.

This is how the Mid-Atlantic Blues Society works.  Hope you got some ideas.

Last, but not least, ENJOY YOUR STAY AS MUCH AS OTHER MEMBERS DO!
