Some Help for

For Our New Members

Milkmans Sober Living Site

Just thought I'd take a moment to let all the new members know a little bit about our group pages.

Here's a link that shows all the acronyms for the internet abbreviations.

Hope this helps ya all.

Reading, Posting Or replying to messages

To Read a message~~
If you want to read a message
First Select One of our message boards on the left hand column.
~ look to the left hand side
of the message board
on the left hand side is the first column,
on top is says "Subject"
click on the title of the Subject
and you will be able to read the message.

To Reply to a Message~~
If you would like to reply or make a comment to the message,
you will see on the top left of the message
it says "Reply" click on that and a new window will open up...
looks almost like sending an e-mail cause it has the
Rich Text Editor on the top...
that's where you can choose the font, text colour etc.
Type in your message then click on the 'Send Message" button,
(unless you would like to re-do your message;
if you do...click on cancel and start over.)
Remember To Click On The "Send Button" ~
(if you don't the message won't go through)

To Start a New Message/Topic~~
If you would like to start your own message...
(what we call posting, or post a message)
Look to the top o the page you will see where it says ~~
"New Discussion" click on that
and a window will open up as I described above
on to reply to a message....
there is one difference though...
when you want to Start a "New Discussion"
you will see an area where at the top it says "Subject"
you would type in what the topic/subject is~~
just like sending an e-mail.
**Remember to click on the "Send Message" button.

To Reply to messages from your e-mail~~
For those who get messages delivered to their directly
to their e-mail and would like to reply....

If you have chosen this option to receive group messages....
When you receive a message to your e-mail from the group....
you will see on the top left...
"Reply" next to that is "Reply To Sender"
To reply to the message to make sure
that it gets on the mesasage board here....
**Click on the "Reply" button...type your message and then send....
just like an e-mail and it will come here to the message board.

(If you click on the 'Reply To Sender' button..
it will go to the person who posted the message
and will not make it to the message boards here.)

We urge you to post your date of sobriety on the "Clean Dates" board, sign in on the "Members Sign In" board, check out the "Chat Room Info" page to find out about the Chat Room and times it is open (there's a link to Time Zone differences there), check out the "Music Board" (a little bit of Music trivia), a "Pot Luck Board" to post jokes and other material you would like to share. Post your own personal site on the "Members Sites" page, download your personal pictures to a personal album on the "Pictures" page.

The bottom half of the links on the left are mostly devoted to AA and NA information for recovery and program information. We have a Help (links) Tutorial board for the computer newcomers, and for the others to post help pages for each other.

If you would like to tell your "story" and have it posted on the "Members Stories" page, either post it to the Discussion Board, or email it to me and I will post it with a link to the "Members Stories" page.

This Group is here for YOU, and if you have any suggestions, complaints or comments, please feel free to post them, or email myself or one of the other managers at any time.

We urge you to share you experiences on the message boards when you can, join in on some fun and recovery in the Chat Room, which is open 7 nights a week. The more that members share, the better recovery and support there is, to help those in need.

Your Email Settings

I just wanted to let you know, that this is a very active group with a lot of messages every day. We have from 50 to 100 a day, and to those that have their email settings set for instant messaging, when you have the red star next to your name, that you will receive an email every time a message is posted to any board on this site.
If you don't want to receive all the messages, reset your email setting, to either daily digest or weekly digest. You will still get all the messages, but they will arrive in ONE email, instead of separate ones.
I find that if you would like to read the messages, the best way is to go with the Daily Digest, and then you can always come to the site at any time, 24/7, and read them directly and reply off of the board.

How to change Email Settings

First make sure you are signed in to MSN Net Passport
Click the Members Tool Link at the bottom of the links on the side of any page in the group.
When the window for your members tools open up, click My Email Settings.
When the email settings window opens up, uncheck the "inbox" box and put a check in the Daily Digest, or read on the web, whatever your preference is,
Then be sure you "save" at the bottom of the page.

If you still have the red star next to your msn name, it didn't change yet, so try again.

There are also tools to use in the posting window to change color, size, font style and more. Pictures may also be inserted. There is a help that will explain other things also.

Posting Your Sobriety/Clean Date

To enter your sobriety/clean date, go to the link on the left, "Sobriety/Clean Dates".
  Click on "Add item",
Enter you real name, clean date for the month and put your clean date on the month and day menu, and any comments you would like to enter.
Click "add" and your information will be added to the list.

This list is in alphabetical order by "Real Name".  We are on page three, and may be getting ready to go to page four. To view your entry, you MAY have to go to the top of the clean date window and click on next, depending which page you are on.

For the "Members Sign In",

You repeat what you did for the "Sobriety/Clean Dates" list.  This list is in order by date entered, and there are multiple pages. Click on "next" at the top, to view your entry.

Thanks for being here.

The Milkman (Mike)
