A DOG'S PRAYER
Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more grateful for kindness than the loving heart of me.
Do not break my spirit with a stick, for though I should lick your hand between the blows, your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me to do.
Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.
When it's cold and wet, please take me inside, for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements. And I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet beside the hearth. though you had no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land, for you are my god and I am your devoted worshiper.
Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you if it were dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready, willing and able to protect you with my life should your life be in danger.
And, beloved master, should the great master see fit to deprive me of my health or sight, do not turn me away from you. Rather hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of eternal rest and I will leave you knowing with the last breath I drew, my fate was ever safest in your hands.
Prayer of a Stray
Please send me somebody who'll care! I'm tired of running, I'm sick with despair. My body is aching, it's so racked with pain and, dear God, I pray as I run in the rain, that someone will love me and give me a home, a warm cozy bed and a big juicy bone.
My last owner tied me all day in the yard, sometimes with no water and, God, that was hard! So I chewed my leash and I ran away, to rummage in garbage, and live as a stray.
But now, God, I'm tired and hungry and cold, and I'm so afraid that I'll never grow old. They've chased me with sticks, hit me with stones, while I run the streets just looking for bones!
I'm not really bad, God, please help me if you can, for I have become just a 'victim of man'.
I'm wormy, dear God, and I'm ridden with fleas and all I want is an owner to please!
If you find one for me, God, I'll try to be good. I won't chew their shoes and I'll do as I should.
I will love and protect them and try to obey, when they tell me sit, lie down or stay.
I don't think I'll make it too long on my own, 'cause I'm getting so weak and I'm OHHH so alone.
Each night I sleep in the bushes and cry, '.cause I'm afraid, God, that I'm gonna die!
I've got so much love and devotion to give, that I should be given a new chance to live
So, dear God, please, please answer my prayer and send somebody who will really care!

LOSS OF A DOG
By Dr. Carlile
If you've ever known the welcome
of a barking ball of hair
a sloppy kiss
a friendly paw
a quiet adoring stare.
If you've ever had a special friend
to share a tear or two
or maybe just a wagging tail
to lift you when you're blue.
If you've ever lost your troubles
in a joyful romp outside
or shared your fears
with listening ears
that never left your side.
If you've ever felt the wrenching pain
that only death can send,
then you have lost
not just a dog,
you've truly lost a friend.
A loving God would not destroy
the love that He creates,
so rest assured that you will find
your dog at Heaven's gate.
That joyful bark,
that sloppy kiss
will greet you once again
and share your love forevermore --
your dog - - your precious friend
For the New Puppy Owner
Don't smell crotches, don't eat plants,
Don't steal food or underpants.
Don't eat my socks, don't grab my hair....
DON'T RIP THE STUFFING FROM THAT CHAIR!
Don't eat those peas! Don't touch that bush!
Don't chew my shoes...What IS that mush?
Eat your cookie, drink your drink.
Outta the toilet! Outta the sink!
AWAY FROM THE CAT BOX, ITS FOR THE CAT!!
And, must you kiss me after that?
Yes, raising a puppy is not for the lazy!
Though puppies are funny, they're also quite crazy.
But don't despair, though its toil and strife.
After three years, you'll get back your life.
So, let's go for "walkies", you "do your thing"
and, PERHAPS, I'll get back my GOOD DIAMOND RING!!
POEM FOR DOG LOVERS
Hello. I've been expecting you for quite some time.
Here, sit beside us for awhile and let me tell you about this old friend of mine.
She might look tattered or maybe old,
But, she has been the best friend I've had and I'm not ready to say goodbye until you've been told.
She had the brightest eyes I had ever seen.
She wore the most beautiful fur coat that would outshine a queen.
She was never prissy, but walked with an aire.
And, oh so polite, you could take her anywhere.
She could run like the wind and could catch anything she chased,
But she protected and sat with me when I had problems to face
You could not find a friend so dear
No matter the trouble she always was near.
She has never asked for much from me,
Just to love and respect her and I think you'll agree
That to give her a good meal and a warm bed is not much to ask
When she has given me more love than most anyone...to her it was not task.
Now, I understand you have a schedule to keep,
But I have a small favor before she nods off to sleep,
Please fold your wings around her and let her feel young without any pain
Dear Guardian Angel of Pets, keep her safe and happy until I see her again.

QUOTES AND PROVERBS
Dogs are our link to paradise,
they don't know jealousy or discontent
To sit with a dog on a hillside on a
glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden,
where doing nothing was not boring - -
it was peace.
- - Milan Kundera
He is your friend, your partner, your defender,
your dog.
You are his life, his love, his leader.
He will be yours, faithful and true,
to the last beat of his heart.
You owe it to him
to be worthy of such devotion.
