MindTalk or Russ McGinn, is a Professional film, stage and television actor who has performed in front millions of people in his career. When he was a boy, Russ delivered milk to homes and one of the benefits of the job were free movie tickets at the Firmage Movie Theater. It was "at the movies" in Milford Utah where his acting dreams began. These dreams were nurtured by caring Utah teachers in Milford schools until he reached manhood. One of the great influences on Russ’s life were the Faith without Evidence, critical life lesson’s he learned from his Catholic Parish Priest - the late Father Valine. As an Altar Boy, Russ traveled during the summer with Father Valine when he ‘said’ Mass on weekends in the Utah & Arizona National Parks. It was the discussion on these trips with Father Valine where Russ learned the Power of Belief - he was taught how to use and tap the Creative Power of God to help us achieve our goals in life. Russ attended college at UNLV and Southern Utah University where he graduated with a BA degree in 1967. While in Cedar City, he helped establish the Utah Shakespearean Festival during the Festival’s first three years. Active in student government, he served as Advertising Manager and was instrumental in establishing the campus radio station. During the Vietnam Conflict, Russ served as a Military Policeman in the US Army and was selected as the Outstanding Soldier in Europe. He also performed in a USO touring show.
In graduate school, he was a member of the Illinois Repertory Theater Company at Illinois State University, Russ starred in many productions and graduated with a Master’s Degree in Speech & Theater in 1970.
Russ moved to Los Angeles to pursue his film acting dreams. His first involvement was in the small theater scene as both an actor & director. A member of Actor’s alley he worked stage productions with Tyne Dailey, David Soul, Gena Rowlands and Ann Ramsey. He was cast in his first film by Legendary Film Director, Gordon Douglas in "Slaughter’s Big Rip Off." An athlete in high school and college, Russ has been able to use these skills in films when he did his own stunts and fight scenes; he also coached high school basketball in California.
Having performed in over 40 film projects, Russ has worked many stars including: Kevin Beacon, Lori Singer, Dianne Wiest, Sara Jessica Parker & John Lithgow in FOOTLOOSE. A member of the Screen Actors Guild and a Union activist since 1973, Russ helped organized Guild actors when he returned to Utah to live and was elected the first President of the Utah Branch. He recently resigned from the National Board of the Screen Actors Guild in Hollywood after nine years of service. He has worked on Guild Committee’s with Whoopi Goldberg, Steve Allan, Kevin Spacy, Tom Bosley, Richard Dreyfuss, Mitch Ryan, Richard Masur, Melissa Gilbert, Elloitt Gould and Charleston Heston. Russ continues to perform and direct in the local Utah Theater, and performs in an occasional Film. He was awarded the "Best Actor Award" for his stage performance as Lennie in "Of Mice and Men." He founded a Multi Media company - Active Creative Technologies and is currently developing lectures and CD’s on the Power of Mind.
In the early 70's he studied with the late Dr. Joseph Murphy - author of the classic mind thought book "The Power of Your Subconscious Mind..." This site is dedicated to spreading information on Dr. Murphy's ideas and his works... the keys to unlocking ...The Power of Your Mind.
