| | Audrain County Haunts Haunted Train Trestle Mexico People have reported hearing ghostly foot steps walking the gravel road under the trestle and feeling a presence. Reportedly this site was once used by the KKK for hangings. There are rumors that the racists group killed infants and children as well as adults at this location. Location: If you take 54(first exit off 54 coming from Kingdom City) into Mexico turn left just past G&D Steak House You'll come to a T (Fairground Rd.) turn left, the black top turns to gravel pretty quick stay on gravel, the trussel is about a mile down, can't miss it. Warning go slow road is really washboardy Information Posted By Members am now 20, and the house I grew up in is only about 100 feet from the city line of Mexico, Missouri, so my road turns to gravel there. Down this gravel road are a set of trestles that support train tracks. It is rumored that the KKK used to hang it's victims there, and other people had told me stories of strange things that happened there. I was never afraid of it though, until this incident when I was in high school. My best friend and I used to get free food from a fast food place where our friend worked and sit on top of the trestles and eat it. On one such night we were eating and joking when we heard a disturbance in the gravel road below that sounded much like footsteps. This didn't really scare me, though, because there were woods to either side of the road and it could be a deer or some other animal. We could tell the sounds were directly under us, under the trestles, so we kept eating and joking. Then later, the noises were still there and my friend and I stopped talking. We looked at each other for a while because we could tell the footsteps had moved out in front of us, but we saw nothing. It was a full moon and whatever was making the noise would have been at least decent sized but we saw nothing. The first thing that frightened us was when we both made the observation that the footsteps sounded like they were obviously bipedal, or on two feet. The next thing that scared us was, though we saw nothing, the sound of the footsteps was moving towards our car. This truly freaked us out, but we didn't know what to do. Every time we threw a rock at the noise it would stop for a second, then start back up. By now it sounded as if it was just circling our car. We sat scared as hell for about five minutes before we decided to make a mad dash for the car and leave. Now, every time I go out there or even look down my road, I get the worst chills and I beg whoever is driving to leave. This is definitely a site for phenomenon, for many people I know have their stories about that place, and mine is the least scary of them. ! Amnesiacinsomniac (auther unknown) Old Mexico Theater The old theater was torn down some years ago and a car lot now sits in its place. When the theater was still open, it was rumored to be haunted, but at this time we haven’t been able to find any accounts of particular experiences. Location: Liberty St. Audrain County Hospital and The Stribling House Mexico There are stories of strange occurrences in the sub-floor tunnels that travel between these two buildings. People report feeling a presence and the elevators have been known to act strangely. Location: The Disappearing Cabin Information Posted By Members Years ago, just southeast of Mexico, on a clear moonlite night, a log cabin would appear as you drove toward it and vanish just before you got to the location. This happened numerous times, I saw it over a period of two to three years. Always with other people in the car. ( No longer verifiable to the deaths of those that did remember) For some strange reason, none of us would ever mention this to anyone else, probably because we were kids and shouldn't have been out there in the first place. The clay pit area was considered dangerous and we may have been trespassing at that time. Regardess, that cabin would and could be seen on a specific corner under certain conditions. In later years, I tried many times to re-trace our steps, without sucess as far as seeing the cabin again. The image is very vivid in my mind, it appeared to be occupied, had some sort of a "trellis" to the left of the door, with either roses or vines with red flowers, one stone step to enter the house, and a grindstone to the right side of the house. Location: For those of familar with Audrain County, on the south side of Mexico, Teal Lake Road runs east from Hy 54. Before this became Teal Lake Road, or even Teal Lake, the current lake was simply clay pits. The road existed then as now. You go east about one mile and 1/4 and there is a square turn south for about another mile and 1/4 to 1/2 to another left or square corner going east again. On this corner, before turning east ,on the right side of the road is where it would appear. On a county map, this would right in the middle of Section 12, Township 50N, Range 9W. Imagination, I don't think so. Four to six kids in a car don't don't all imagine the same thing at the same time. - Posted by Betty | |
