| Boone County Haunts Stephens College Columbia Senior Hall - Reportedly haunted by the ghost of a girl named Sarah Jane Wheeler. The following story is the most popular version of Sarahs sad tale: While living in this hall as a senior in 1862 she fell in love with a confederate soldier named Issac Johnson. Johnson was found by confederate troops hiding in Sarahs closet, where she had been protecting him from capture for some time. Johnson was executed by firing squad outside of Sarahs window. The distraught girl either hung herself or jumped from the bell tower. Another story reports that the couple escaped together and then drowned in the Hinkson creek. People have reported strange activity in the hall including Sarahs ghost appearing every Halloween. Note: In the book Haunted Heartland by Beth Scott and Michael Norman the authors refer to research that has shown no bell tower existed at the hall in 1862, and there have been no records found to confirm that a girl by this name attended the school or that an execution like this ever took place.
