Nine Mile Bridge

The bridge is said to be haunted by the ghosts of slaves who were hung from the original wooden structure or close by. Some witness report that on dark nights ghostly glowing eyes can be seen under the bridge and in the trees surrounding the location. This bridge is also a legend in the area. It is a popular story among the teenagers. We have visited the sight a couple of times and taken pictures. All our pictures have turned out completely dark, this is the only time we have ever run into this problem.

Location: From Kingdom City take outer Rd. (on north side of Denny’’s) that runs E. along side Hwy.70. Follow outer Rd. to Callaway Livestock Center (sales barn), at stop sign take left, pass over 70, continue on gravel to the T, go right, continue to follow this road until you pass small white church on your right( Old Auxvasse Presbyterian), continue down the hill past church, it is the first bridge you come to.

Other Points Of Interest In Area: There is a small old cemetery behind the church.

I was just wanting to share a story about Nine Mile Bridge. There is an old church on the hill just above the bridge that dates back to the beginnings of Callaway county. About 15 years ago, a friend and I took some girls to the cemetery behind the church at night to see if we could scare them (just being teenage guys). We were at the cemetery about 15 minutes when we decided that the girls werent scared and we were. When we turned to leave, we noticed a faint light in what I guess would be the attic of the church. We then got into the car and backed out of the parking lot. When the headlights shined on the front of the church we could see that the double doors were standing wide open(of course they were shut when we got there), and there was a fox sitting just inside the doors looking at us. Thats it. Just thought I'd share.

Link Cemetery

Headstone of Willie Scott

The cemetery is said to be haunted, but as of yet we haven’t been able to gather any particular info on reported phenomenon. However, the cemetery and surrounding area has an interesting history and would be worth checking out.

Location: 1/4 mile down County Rd. 4029 N. of Wainright .

History: The 2-acre cemetery is believed to have had the 1st burial in 1838. One particular grave of interest is that of a young man named William S. "Willie" Scott. Willie was murdered on March 31, 1865 after being dragged from his sisters home in the river bottoms area. Willys story is a very interesting one and one of legend in the area. We recommend checking out the following for more details about the life and death of William Scott.

Old Salem Cemetery

We haven’’t found any particular stories of haunts connected to this place, but we have taken pictures there and have caught some ecto fog in a few. The place was pretty run down and grown over the last time we went, but I have heard that they are now restoring it.

Location: Off of Rt.O. Small entrance drive next to Green Acres Bar, across from power plant. 3.5 miles south east of Readsville.

After reading about Old Salem Cemetery in a few different places, my sister and I decided to drive out and take a look for ourselves. It's down Route O in Callaway County a few miles from the nuclear power plant (Callaway County is just northeast of Jefferson City; if anyone wants specific directions, I'll post them).

It was almost hot out the day that we decided to go find it, and when we got to the cemetery, the temperature dropped dramatically. The ground was badly burned, and a lot of the graves had caved in, leaving suspicious-looking burnt dips in the ground. Gravestones had been picked up and piled in various places, and a few were knocked over or sticking out of the ground perfect.

As far as physical reactions go, this has got to be the spookiest place I've ever been. Like I said, the temperature drop was dramatic. We were in jeans and t-shirts and shivering (after we left the cemetery, we went to the nuclear power plant and were sweating in the heat there). My sister, who is pretty sensitive to the vibes certain places give off, refused to venture more than a few feet into the cemetery, and swore that she felt several people looking at her.

We didn't catch any orbs on camera, but in almost all of the pictures, there are mists and what looks like smoke in the background (although none of the burnt spots were even warm to the touch).

Another odd thing we noticed - the cemetery is surrounded on two sides by Route O (the road sort of curves around it), and on two sides by forest. Most of the trees are budding, and none have dead leaves left hanging on them, but all of the trees inside the cemetery gates were full of dead leaves. I found that odd.

We didn't stay long because both of us were feeling weird, and my sister actually felt physically ill for the rest of the afternoon and we went home early because of it. I'd definitely like to go back with charged batteries in my camera (I could only get a few pictures because the batteries were nearly dead).

If you want to add this to the Callaway County Haunts section, you're more than welcome - This cemetery is definitely not a dud. There was something very odd about it.

Little Dixie Lake

Supposedly the area of a large tree on a lake trail is haunted. There are reports of the apparition of a man seen hanging from the tree.
