Cole County Haunts  The Governors Mansion Jefferson City This is probably the most well known haunted location in Cole County. The mansion is believed to be haunted by Carrie, the nine-year-old daughter of a former Governor. The little girl died of illness in 1883. There may also be other spirits inhabiting the home, but Carrie is the most talked about and the only apparition that has been reported. Other phenomenons reported in the home are odd sounds, objects being moved, elevators moving from floor to floor on their own, candles burning down on their own, etc. Location: 100 Madison St.  Cliff Manor Jefferson City The Manor is said to be haunted, but as of yet we have not found any particular stories about phenomenon. Reportedly there is a tunnel in the basement of the home that leads to the river. Location: 722 Cliff St. History : The manor was built in 1866 by Judge Arnold Krekel. Judge Krekel was appointed to the United States District Court of the western district of Missouri in 1865 by Pre. Abram Lincoln. He was anti-slavery and a member of a group of "Radical Unionist." Cliff manor is currently an inn.  St.Mary’s Road Jefferson City People have reported the sounds of an invisible horse and buggy traveling up and down the road.  Old Elementary School Caboose Russellville Reportedly haunted by the ghost of an old hobo who lived in the caboose. It is said that his apparition has appeared on several occasions and that an invisible force opens and shuts the door.
