| Howell County Haunts County Road 3080 Mountain View People report hearing a “ghost” train as they drive this road even though the tracks that once ran near the road no longer exists. Southwest Baptist University Mountain View The library of the school is believed to be haunted by the ghost of a man named Larry Price. Larry supposedly worked on the sight of the library when a warehouse for a lumber company was operating here . It is said that Larry was killed at the warehouse when a pallet of flooring fell on him. Visitors to the library report that books are knocked from the shelves and that a strange knocking sound can be heard coming from beneath the floor. Avenue Theatre West Plains Reports of paranormal activity include objects that disappear and appear again in strange places, the sound of a baby crying can be heard coming from the projection booth, and stage curtains are moved by an unknown force. Old D.W. Reese Primary School West Plains Reports of odd sounds and cold spots. Elk creek Presbyterian Church Graveyard West Plains Reports of apparitions and glowing graves. Haunted Highway North 17 The Bridge - It is said that if you stop your car on this bridge on a rainy night the apparitions of a young boy will appear by your window asking you for help finding his mother. The Stop Sign - On Halloween night it is said that you can see the apparition of a young woman crossing the road near this sign. Supposedly the girl was struck and killed by a car as she tried to cross the road after she had a roadside argument with her boyfriend. Sugar Shack Road Alton The road is believed haunted by the ghost of a woman who lived along the road over a century ago. The legend says that the woman was falsely accused of practicing black magic and lynched by the local people for the crime of witchcraft. Supposedly chains were used to hang her and if you drive along this road you will hear the sound of these chains scraping against the roof of your vehicle. Haunted Railroad Grade Supposedly if you drive along CR 3080, running parallel to where the tracks used to lay, you can hear the ghostly trains still traveling along the now non-existent tracks.
