These are the policies and guidlines for Mother of Marine.

We adhere to the DOD guidelines:

  • Please Help Us Protect Our Marines By Not Posting messages containing  Surnames,of any Marines, Recruits or ANY INFORMATION about the DI's Units, and Locations.
  • DO not post messages containing any information or dates (specific or non-specific) relating to troop movements, deploymenty, homecoming as well as trainings
  • This is a public message board --  messages can be seen by any person logging onto our site.  For security purposes it is extremely important not to post any information that may tie together names, ranks or locations. Use nicknames or just first names. .
  •  When posting information about deployments and homecomings please be careful in giving DETAILS. Please use general terms ( eg: instead of saying My Cpl is leaving for Iraq on Dec 12 with the 1/5 Echo Co.... you can say My Cpl will be leaving for Iraq sometime early DEC. )
  • The same goes for homecoming.  Do not give specific details.
  •  Some of you are connected to a Key Volunteer or get e-mails and phone calls from your Marine. Sometimes the information you are given is not for PUBLIC knowledge.  Please use caution in posting information you may have.
  • DO NOT POST ADDRESSES OF ANY MARINE!   If you are asking for cards or letters or information to send care packages PLEASE use private e-mail for this.  It is OK to post your e-mail address, and ask others to e-mail you privately for the information.
  • If a Marine has been KIA or wounded, and you want to send condolences notes to the family or are asking for the same from members, please ask the members to privately e-mail you for the information.
  • As this is a PUBLIC web sight I ask that you do not post personal information such as HOME TOWNS, Address phone numbers and such.

When I see a post that contains personal information or other security information I will copy the post and edit out this information and re-post it, stating why it was deleted. So if you see a post you made was deleted scroll down through the messages on that thread for the edited version.

Also of concern is the tone of postings that express frustrations and anger with some of the policies and practices within the USMC.  Please use respect in posting your concerns as well as when replying to a post.  For the most part this has not been a huge problem here at M.O.M. As with any large group, there are bond to be "horror stories" The USMC is a group of HUMANS and even as Marines there will always be a few that give the rest a bad name.

Along these same lines, MOM is a non-political , group and is not the place to vent about politcal events. While we may not all support our president, it is my hope that all members here support our Marines.

Every Month I try to post the WHAT'S NEWS page, and will post information you ASK ME TOO.   I may know someone is having a birthday but unless I am asked to post that on the WHATS NEW page I will not assume you want it there.  Many times information is shared with only a few. And some Marines do not want their information posted.   Information such as promotions, Graduations, Birthdays and anniversaries are all great for the What's New Page.  As all promotions happen on the 1st of the month, I try to get the page up by the end of that first week so I can include all the current promotions.
I ask that you E-MAIL me with any information you want include as

It will let me know you want your information posted. Also I often work on the page offline and if you post it here I may not see it when I do up the page.

We also have a section in Tribute to our Deployed Marines.   Again I will not assume you want your Marine listed there unless you specifically ask me too.  If so, please send me a E-MAIL with the following information.   Marine rank and first name.  Home BASE .  Home state. Parents first Names.  You may include other information ( like wife and kids) and I will take the photo and embellish it, send you a copy to approve and then post it.  (due to a lack of interst this page has been suspended --however if the intrest picks up the page can be re-opened)

This is a WONDRFUL GROUP of Marine Family Members who are very supportive of each other.   We share many concerns for our Marines as well as for each other.  Please be respectful in responding to the posts and remember that we all are under stress.

If you have any question about these policies, or want to E-MAIL me with information or photos to use  on the MOTW Tribute page you can send an e-mail to : http://groups.msn.com/MomofMarine/email   this will get to all of the Managers.

If you have any ideas or suggestions please e-mail me or post them on the message boards

Thanks

Denise,

MOM Manager
