IN LOVING MEMORY OF MY DEAR SON--MELVIN FRANKLIN
We miss you, so very much!
God only knows, how our hearts bleed for you,
so great was the joy that you brought into our lives.
That joy, that you spread everywhere you went, survives.
Not a day passes that someone you touched, whose
lives you brightened in some way, don't return
a portion of it to me...to us.
My son, we love you, but God loved you first.
We thank him for the blessings he brought into
our lives through you
Your loving mother, Mrs. Rose Franklin

A TRIBUTE TO THE
LATE GREAT MELVIN FRANKLIN
FROM HIS DAUGHTER DAVETTE ENGLISH
ON FEBRUARY 23 1995 THE WORLD AND MY FAMILY LOST THE GREATEST DAD AND BASS SINGER SO WE PAY TRIBUTE TO MELVIN a.k.a BLUE
Dear Fans,
Christopher has asked that I write this letter to you in order to pay tribute to my father, Melvin Franklin. After much thought and deep prayer, I think my father would best be served by paying tribute to you. You have been loyal far beyond any expectation that my father could have had. His family and closest friends are deeply touched by your signs of gratitude and love. My father was indeed the greatest bass singer, but my opinion I’m afraid is biased. Melvin was not just a performer though; he was a son, father and a husband.
It was truly the man that lived beyond the stage that helped make the public image that much greater. Humble, sincere, and loyal are characteristics of that man. More importantly and should have been listed first, he was truly a man of God. Giving God the glory first was always first in my father’s life. You could not have known him without knowing that the presence of the sweet Holy Spirit resided within.
My father, David, was an extraordinarily talented man. He was blessed with a gift of music that was brought forth not only in singing, but songwriting as well. My fondest memory of my father was the one man concert he would perform for his biggest fan, which is me. (Smile)
The world simply isn’t the same without my father’s bright and beautiful smile, serene and humble spirit, but what a joyous angel he must make. I live knowing we will someday meet again, and in the meantime when my spirit needs to be lifted or I need to feel a hug, I play a cd, I read an email from a fan, or I simply look at my children because I know he lives on through them.
Thank you for loving my father so much and for continuing to honor his legacy.
Sincerely
Davette M. English
