| | Pandora.com (from the Music Genome Project) Their player creates a playlist based on the input you give it, then lets you tweak the list. The flash player is a little slow on 56K dialup but I'll bet it's killer on a fast connection.
I typed in The Rolling Stones and it played "I'm Free" by the Stones, "No Reply" by the Beatles, then "Sugar and Spice" by The Cryin' Shames based on the tonal qualities of the music. It went on to "Bitch" by the Stones, a Blind Lemon song and so on. You can then rate the items with a thumbs up or thumbs down to tweak what you're looking for.
From the website: "Ever since we started the Music Genome Project, our friends would ask: Can you help me discover more music that I'll like? Those questions often evolved into great conversations. Each friend told us their favorite artists and songs, explored the music we suggested, gave us feedback, and we in turn made new suggestions. Everybody started joking that we were now their personal DJs. We created Pandora so that we can have that same kind of conversation with you." 3/13/2006 1:24 AM | Return to Links Menu ***** Return to Site Map |

| | Aerosmith's Website (media page) Making of Honkin' on Bobo wmv video is available on >Aerosmith's Website<. There are both high speed and low speed versions. While the intention may have been to stream it, I right clicked and downloaded the video to watch it in my Window's Media Player since my connection is sooooo slooooow it wasn't feasible to watch it any other way. The files are most of the way down the page. Honkin' on Bobo description from their website - "March 2004COLUMBIAAerosmith don't have much time for pain on Honkin' on Bobo. The songs are mostly about gettin' some, then gettin' outta there -- Dixon's "I'm Ready," Bo Diddley's "Road Runner" -- and the attack is heavy Sixties shindig: snarling guitars, thunderclap drumming, Steven Tyler's 3-D snake hiss and widescreen yowl. Bobo is really a combined tribute: to the originators of the blues' core repertoire and the explosive, electric inventions of 1960s British bands such as the Yardbirds, Mayall's Bluesbreakers and the Peter Green-era Fleetwood Mac." 3/22/2006 3:45 PM | Return to Links Menu ***** Return to Site Map |

| | The Band - an unofficial Website This is a link to the audio page of a Dutch unofficial fan site for The Band. There's a lot of samples and quite a few whole songs from The Band, Bob Dylan and the Band, The Hawks (before they became The Band), various band members other projects and covers of The Band's music by other artists in a variety of downloadable and streaming formats. Look for the "whole song" in the description if little bits and pieces drive you crazy. Of special note, a live version of one of my favorite Dylan songs, Leopard Skin Pillbox Hat. Also note, if you follow the links, there's an extensive collection of video to stream and/or download and a boatload of information here. 8/24/2006 10:28 AM | Return to Links Menu ***** Return to Site Map |

| | The Official "Weird Al" Yankovic Web Site Weird Al has a couple free downloads for you on his website. Ironically, (I'm sure intentionally so), "Don't Download This Song" is available. Also, there's a parody of a James Blunt song, "Your Pitiful" available for free download. This one's not on Al's new CD, "Straight Outta Lynwood". (I bought it for my 16 year old son, really) If you haven't seen his new CD, it's some newfangled thing that's a CD on one side and a DVD on the other with videos for all the songs. The CD side won't play on my computer (boo, hisss). Each track stops after 30 seconds. The videos are hilarious, as you'd expect from Weird Al. There's also a "making of" video of Al in the studio. Worth the 16 bucks I plunked down for it at Best Buy but I'd really have liked to put the songs on my hard drive. 11/26/2006 12:55 AM | Return to Links Menu ***** Return to Site Map |
