Hi all and welcome to my community. I hope you will come often and join in to help make this a growing and active community. Please feel free to contribute to the message areas and other resources. My name is James, and I am a PhD chemist working in the area of environmental chemistry in Athens, GA. As you can guess, I have had a life long interest in chemistry (I guess I inherited it since my father was a pharmacist and have an uncle who is also a chemist). I have also had a long interest in astronomy and outer space especially after seeing my first sci fi movie (I think it was Flash Gordon [the original, not the 1980's rip-off]). I have also been interested in weather and weather related phenomena for sometimes as well, and became interested in hurricanes after living on the Gulf Coast and going through Hurricane Frederic in 1979 (see my story at left). I also almost ran into Hurricane Gloria a few years later while inspecting a laboratory in Hampton, VA.
