On taking shelter at a village pub a farmer bursts in from the stormy night outside and declares a weird blackness erupting in centre of his field and six huge evil cows (Bullwiellers) had came through and killed Bert his farm hand.
The group run to field and destroy the siz Bullweillers but as everything drawing to close they are surrounded on all sides by twenty hobgoblins who attack. The fight is bloody and after which the farmer arrives (he a cleric of minor ability) and does some healing and the heroes drink healing potions from the bodies of the hobgoblins. The farmer informs characters that the hobgoblins are from a lair to the north.
Enroute the party are ambushed by eight hobgoblins in trees and two hobgoblins restraining two carnivornous apes on leashes. On arrival at the lair they ambush four guards before entering the lair
