Rules

General Rules: These are the golden rules of NMR. They apply to all threads, with a few exceptions that are noted in the rules.
Specific Rules: These are rules that govern specific threads. If you don't visit/post in those threads, you don't have to worry about these rules.
Guidelines: Not quite rules, but you should still read and follow them
Consequence Policy: What happens when you break rules

General Rules

I. Mods are judge, jury, and executioner!
They can supersede any rule, even this one!

II. Threats will not be tolerated.
This includes (but isn’t necessarily limited to) hack threats and threats of actual physical harm. Even if you are joking around, threats will be taken seriously and are grounds for immediate termination of membership or even banning.

III. No slurs of any sort.
This includes (but isn’t necessarily limited to) racial, gender, or sexual orientation. And being the same race/gender/orientation as the slur used will not exempt you from this rule. Generic insults like “idiot” or “noob” are okay, but do try to keep it in the flames board >__>

IV. No mature content. Do not use "swear" words.
No mature content is allowed on this website, that includes discussing sexual content, excessive gore, or any other topic which may require an adult perspective. At one time 18+ threads had been allowed, this is no longer the case. Swearing is still not allowed in threads on a general basis, however if you choose to create a topic that allows moderate swearing, you may place a 15+ warning in the topic. 15+ indicating that a moderate level of swearing and other colorful language, also used moderately, may be present. As an alternative to nmr, NMReborn has been redone and set up for mature discussions should you choose to use it. We do understand that people are going to be upset, but this is going to be the course of NMR for the foreseeable future. NMR mods do constantly discuss events on the site and what to do to improve it.

V. Do not select “Send all messages to inbox” when joining!
If you do, you email will be massively flooded. And when you post to complain, we will spam just to send you more stuff! Click here in case you accidentally selected it to learn how to turn it off.

VI. No spamming!
Don’t post merely for the sake of posting. There are two exceptions. One is shown in Rule V. The other is the 100 post game. And the exception to the second exception is any thread made by a mod that issue serious business, especially talking about the site's construction, etc and on the site help board. Absolutely NO spamming on mods’ threads. Use your common sense.

VII. Don’t make repeat threads!
Always check to see if you can post in an existing thread rather than starting a new one.

VIII. Do not double post.
It's okay if you occasionally forget something that you wanted to post, so you post again when you remember it. Just don't make a habit of it. Try to get all your thoughts together in one post.

IX. Post relevantly and in the right board.
If you’re not going to contribute anything useful to a thread, don’t post at all. Click here for the board descriptions.

X. Don’t whine.
If you don’t like something, you’re perfectly welcome to leave! We aren’t going to cater to your whiny ass!

XI. Use a reasonable font.
Don’t use a very big text size. No Wingdings, Symbol, etc. Colors are fine, but avoid neon ones. Don’t use all caps.

XII. Don’t make new albums except for new chapters.
Fanart can be posted in this thread. Or, you can upload them at our sister site, Picture Girl Returns. Do not repost chapters unless it’s a higher quality upgrade. Do not repost chapters that are already in volumes. If you create a new album that is not for the manga, it will be deleted and your membership could be revoked. Join NMR PictureGirlReturns to post up other pictures from the series of Naruto. For those of you who post the manga, the raw will be deleted when a translated version comes out, and only one translation album will remain. The best translation is the one likely to stay and the others will be deleted. This is because the album space is limited and we want to keep supporting the manga for as long as we possibly can.

XIII. Do not put "Discuss" or "Debate" at the bottom of a post.
Also no trailing off your topic into the post. Most likely, your thread will be deleted instead.

XIV. Do not ask to be a mod!
The answer is NO!

XV. Do not impersonate the managerial staff!
Don’t pretend to be one of the mods. Don’t act like you’re a mod.

Specific Rules

I. Spoiler threads:
There will be two spoiler threads each week. One will be for the spoiler releases ONLY! Nothing but the spoiler and translation will be posted there. The other is for discussion of the spoiler.
Another thing: Do NOT post anything related to the spoilers outside of the spoiler board until the chapter comes out. See here for details.

II. Chapter-specific threads:
There will be three threads each week: Chapter releases and Chapter discussion in the General board, and next chapter theories in the Theories board.

III. Voting threads:
These are the hurt & heal type games. There will be no more than 5 at a time. This includes voting games from all boards.
If you create a voting thread, please credit the person who first came up with that particular game. Also, be sure to give all necessary info in the first post (# points per day, max hp, other specifics)

IV. Picture Girl's Revenge:
Make sure your post arranges all the pictures in the post vertically, not horizontally. This will prevent your post from stretching the page.
Be considerate of those with slower connections when you post a lot of pictures. 4 pictures per post is the rule of thumb. However, post fewer pictures if they're big (eg. wallpapers) or more if they're small (eg. avatars/icons). Do not copy and paste pictures from other sites, especially non msn sites. You're drawing Bandwidth off other websites to this site. This is something msn might use as a reasoning for closing down this site. Could also be the same reason on nmr, we cant be sure. So you are asked to upload pictures to the album -here- and then copy them to here, or just post links to pictures and not the pictures themselves. The only expection will be image-hosting sites, such as photobuckets. I'm sure MSN wil not complain

Guidelines

You probably won’t get in trouble for not following these, but chances are you’ll piss people off.

1. Lurk.
Before you begin posting, hang around on the boards for a while. You’ll get a better understanding of how things work here, as well as see what threads are chronic repeats and what topics are considered taboo.

2. Read the manga before posting.
And we mean ALL of it. This is for your own good. The manga we have on this site is a LOT further along than the “official” English version. So if you post after only reading the Viz volumes, you will be laughed at.

3. Play nice with the other kids.
Don’t scare newbies off from NMR =___= If they post a repeat, don’t go shouting NOOB. Just tell them it’s a repeat and link to the original thread.

4. Avoid discussion of religion.
Talk of religion on this site will cause people’s blood pressure to rise. I ask you to refrain from giving other people heart attacks! You don’t want to break the sixth commandment, “Thou shalt not kill”!

5. Don’t brag.
We don’t care if your cousin’s friend’s neighbor’s former roommate knew Kishimoto. We don’t care what your IQ is. We don’t care if you have 3 PhDs and speak 15 languages. We don’t care if you’re the President of the United States. Well, actually we probably do for the last one, but not in a positive way. ANYWAYS. Bragging annoys people, especially since it’s hard to prove on the internet.

6. Use proper English.
Okay, everyone makes typos. And not everyone here is a native English speaker. Spelling and grammar mistakes are forgiven when they don’t impede understanding. But please, please don’t type in l33t.

7. Don't cite Anime or Games as proof.
That should be pretty self-explanatory. Remember that the anime and the games are based off the manga, not the other way around. If something happens in the anime, as awesome as it might be, it doesn't necessarily have to happen in the manga.

Consequence Policy

When a rule, guideline or mod given instruction is broken, this is considered a violation and the person in question is considered in violation. When a member is in violation, NMR has a policy that includes the following, often in stacking order.
As always, the first warning is the rules, guidelines and instructions given by a mod.

First Offense - At a mod's descretion, the first violation may be met with either a warning, or a warning and a strike. A strike is considered to be a warning, and if you are issued a strike understand that you are now on thin ice. If a mod feels that a violation, or the way a violation was commited, or the response to a violation was a negative reflection on the violator in such a way that they feel this matter needs a more pressing response, a mod may choose to immediatly move to either of the next two steps.

Second Offense -  Termination of a member will occur if a person violates the policies of NMR after having been issued a strike, or at anytime a mod feels a violator requires a harsher penalty. Termination of membership is the last warning you will recieve for rule violations.

Third Offense - Any member who finds themself in violation for a third time may be banned from the site. This also applies to any situation that a mod deems requires an immediate ban.

Threads, or other content, may be deleted at a mods discretion for rule violations or any other reason.

Click here to report rule-breakers to the Watchlist. Keep in mind that this is only for serious and repeated infractions. If you post on the watchlist for petty reasons, you will be given a strike. Also, do not whine if you receive a strike. That’s worth another strike.
