Millennium Volunteers
What is Millennium Volunteers?
The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award MV programme is designed to recognise the achievements of young people aged 16 – 24 who give up their free time for the benefit of others in their local communities. Activities from teaching others, peer mentoring to helping within their usual youth group can all count towards MV Awards.
MV is built on the following nine key principles, which complement The Duke of Edinburgh's Award philosophy and helps ensure that the MV programme is a quality voluntary experience:
- sustained personal commitment
- community benefit
- voluntary involvement
- inclusive
- ownership by young people
- variety of opportunities
- partnership
- quality of volunteering opportunities
- recognition of achievements
What do I have to?
The award is split into two levels, the 100 Hour Award, an achievement in itself and the 200 Hour Certifiacate of Excellence. In cadet terms, 'volunteering' is anything on top of a normal parade night that you give your free time up for. This could range from spending a cold, wet weekend helping fundraise at one of our Annual Rally's we help out at, to simply helping out on a weekend clearing up the Sqn.
But what do I get out of it?
Along with the self pride and feeling of accomplishment knowing that you've given up your time for a worthwhile cause, you gain a certificate for completing your 100 Hour Award and a badge for your uniform for completing the 200 Hour Award.
