| This is also listed, on Tatting Links & Tatting Two Etiquette - Webster's New Complete Desk Reference Book: The prescribed rules, forms and practices, established for behavior in polite society or in official or professional life. Netiquette - Network Etiquette while on line: This is a good link to check out for a lot of informative information about Netiquette. It explains in detail how using Netiquette is just as important as using Etiquette in everyday life. http://www.albion.com/netiquette/ Tatiquette: We have never had any set rules for Tatters, except the copyright rule, and that is to respect the rights of other's that have put so much time into putting patterns on the web and writing books for us all to enjoy. Not everyone may agree on these as they are just my opinion what I think Tatiquette should be. Copy Right: 1. Please respect all other's work. Just because you do not see a copyright ©, this does not mean it is yours to take as your own. It could be they just forgot to put a copyright symbol on the page. If you are not sure that it is a copy right, then it is only right to contact the person who's web site it is on. A lot of Tatters make a living writing books to share how to Tat and will supply Patterns. Obviously these patterns are © and not to be used for sale/profit and only for personal use. So when in doubt, give a shout. 2. Do not copy and paste things from other sites, without proper permission from the site owner. Never copy anyones patterns, word for word, or think if you just change the number of double stitches then it's your design. For a lot of information on copyright ©, Click Here. This will take you to our links pages on, "Our Tatting Links". 3. Now I have always said a Technique is free to use, it is the written word that cannot be copied. So use any technique you may learn, but create something original from it. When you make someones else's design, and you want to share a picture of it on your group. Give a little credit to the designer and even where you got the pattern. Don't just put it on a group and say, "Oh look what I did" Most web albums have a place to edit the picture information, so you can write a bit about the pattern. When using a design from a web site, please look around the site and make sure you have permission to show it off. I have only come across one web site that asked not to put their work on other web sites, and that is there right to do so. 4. Adding links to web site: Try not to deep link to Tatting Web Sites, especially if it's an On-Line Store. Deep linking, is putting a link to a page within a web site rather than to the homepage. Always link to the home page and then give a bit of information to the page in mention. This way the person has the option to browse other features that this web site might have to offer. This is a good habit to get into regardless if your linking from your own site or E-Mail, and a courtesy to the other Tatters. 5. Giving credit where credit is due: It is hard to give credit for a lot of techniques that are out there, but if you use a idea that you got from someone it is only common courtesy to give some credit to that person. For instants I saw on Dreams of Lace how to do the square ring using two shuttles. I tried it using two needles and got the technique down. I wrote to Christiane Eichler and got permission to add it to our site, and of course out of common courtesy, I have given her credit and a link to her site. 6. Tatting Groups-MSN or Yahoo: This is where the information on Netiquette will come in handy: http://www.albion.com/netiquette/ We as Tatters should be courteous to everyone on these message boards, and think before we jump on someone, just because you think you can. That is crude and rude and does not make others think very well of you. It is up to Managers of each group to try and control and make rules for some groups, so that unnecessary flaming does not occur. In most groups, there are set rules about Code of Conduct. It is a good idea to read up on the COC for whichever groups you belong to. Code of Conduct is much like Netiquette, and if not properly adhered too, could have you banned from these groups permanently. Rule # 1&2 in the Netiquette page is a very important to remember. Be caring and understanding of how others might feel. More will be added as time permits. If anyone has a suggestion or opinion or something they feel could be added to Tatiquette, please leave a message. |
