NEWARK SEES RED!!!

For the first time in 35 years, the firefighters and citizens of the City
of Newark, New Jersey, will be seeing RED... red fire engines, that is!!

The new NFD administration, under the leadership of Fire Director
Dave Giordano, has elected to return to a red color scheme for all
new fire apparatus. The new colors will also be used to repaint older
rigs that will be kept in service, as the budget allows.

The first rig to sport the new paint scheme is Truck 5's 1994 Emerge-
ncy One, which has had extensive bodywork done on it, and repaint-
ed in the new colors.

The apparatus was placed in service on May 9, 2007 after passing its
ladder test.

While the refurbishment of Truck 5 was taking place, the 2001 Emer-
gency-One pumper of Engine 12, which was heavily damaged in a col-
lision with a DOT truck on Route 78, February 28, 2007, was being re-
paired and repainted.

Some changes were made in the color scheme, which were suppos-
ed to be done on Truck 5's rig originally, except for the striping. The
black stripe was changed to white and moved further down on the
body of Engine 12.

Other graphics changes are plainly visible when you compare the
two rigs.

The apparatus went in service with Engine 12 on August 9, 2007.

Any  comments or discussions regarding the new color scheme, may
be voiced on the "Latest NFD News" messenger board under the title
"Newark Sees RED!!" I encourage our members to post their opinions.
