Here are some important things to know about using the forum. For more detailed information, go to Purpose and Rules and Newcomer's Guide.
OCPD - If you're unsure what OCPD is, read the Phillipson ("The RIGHT Stuff") and Ekleberry ("Dual Diagnosis and ...") online articles found at the top of Best Links on the left hand menu. For more thorough information, read the books "Too Perfect" by Mallinger and chapters 3 and 4 (pp. 69-100) of "Autonomy and Rigid Character" by Shapiro as listed in Bibliography. If you suspect you have OCPD then try one of our online OCPD self-tests.
JOINING - Join using the Join link on the left. When you apply to join the forum, include a reason for joining or else your application will be denied. Explain if it's you or a loved one who has OCPD or suspected OCPD, and, briefly, why you think they have it.
MESSAGE BOARD - Please keep the message board civil. Evince at least a modicum of concern for each other. Consider the content of your messages carefully before you post them. Disagree without being disagreeable. Refrain from personal attacks. Established members who cause problems on the board will be asked to moderate their behavior. New members may be banned without warning.
LOSING POSTS - Sometimes posts are lost at the moment of posting. If you're going to spend a good deal of time composing a post, compose it offline then cut and paste it into the text box before you send it. Then if it crashes you haven't lost it and can simply try sending it again until it works.
SECURITY - Think twice before revealing any identifying information on the message board, such as your real name or other unique circumstances of your life. Imagine your spouse, friends, or coworkers coming upon the message board and reading what you've written, and whether that's something you can live with. If you show your email address consider using a free, throwaway email account such as Hotmail or Yahoo to maintain your privacy.
PROBLEMS WITH MSN - Sometimes there are problems accessing and using the MSN forums. A page may take a long time to load or not load at all. You may get an error message when accessing the Welcome page. After completing the "Join" process, instead of submitting your application it may say "Hmmmm ... can't find that page". The only thing I can suggest is to be patient and try it again a few times, or wait a few hours and try again then.
