Welcome to the On Target New Mexico web site serving Varsity Scout Teams of the Boy Scouts of America in New Mexico! On Target is an activity carried out during the last few decades by Varsity Scout Teams in the United States and in particular in the intermountain west. For years an attempt has been made to see how many mountain peaks can be bridged by signaling mirrors. The goal has been to bridge from Mexico to Canada and from the Pacific Ocean to the Great Plains or beyond. The third Saturday in July national date for On Target is being pushed by Varsity Teams in states to the north. The September date is supported by NM, AZ and CA. Although the On-Target event is intended to promote Varsity Scouting, Venturing Crews as well as Scout Troops (especially Venture Patrols) can also participate. A joint activity with a Varsity Scout Team would be an excellent plan! If you are an adult BSA Unit Leader living in New Mexico or surrounding states and interested in participating in this activity we ask you to join this MSN group to become a full partner in making this activity successful. The first thing you need to do is join the OnTargetNM MSN group using the Join Now button on the left. Please adjust your group membership to automatically get any emails sent to the group members. Until you join the group you will not be able to see some areas of the site or participate fully. However, you should be able to browse all the links at the left except Documents and Calendar before signing up as a group member. We recommend the History areas, Pictures area and the extensive links under On Target Resources. There are a number of google earth .kml files under Documents/Peaks which can be used to help fill out the Peaks and Places list. You can help by making sure that any peak that you are familiar with is described in Peaks and Places . You can then sign up with this peak name for the On-Target activity. If you come back later to the website as a group member and cannot access any of the member only areas, the problem is that you need to sign in with your MSN .NET sign-in name and password to reauthorize your access. ******************************************************************************************* The next activity will be on September 20, 2008. Sign ups are now open for the 2008 activity. ************************************************************************************************ September 15, 2007 Activity Summary 7 teams participated in the September 15, 2007 activity in New Mexico which is one more than 2006! 1st Place - Team 211 2nd Place - Team 202 3rd Place - Team 465 The peaks that at some point had associated teams signed up are shown below. ***************************************************************************************** July 15, 2006 Activity Summary Congratulations to everyone who participated in the 2006 activity on Saturday July 15, 2006 .
