Merlene Fawdry is a writer and poet residing in her native state of Tasmania after spending 30 years living in Victoria. Her professional background includes 25 years working at the coal face of youth and family services in Victoria, working proactively towards de-institutionalisation of young people and family reconciliation. Merlene was employed within both the public and private sector of human services, in direct service and in program and policy reform and development.  She has qualifications in Counselling and Small group Work; Youth Work; Alcohol and Other Drug Work, and a Diploma of Professional Writing & Editing.
Additional to writing, her interests are in social justice and reconciliation for all people who have experienced interference in their lives through legislated power and authority, particularly those who spent their childhood in the institutions of the last century. A shy activist, Merlene is committed to giving a voice to the oppressed through her writing and, with a keen interest in environmental issues, she uses her poetry to speak out against what she sees as government endorsed decimation of her island state.
Merlene is a member of the Fellowship of Australian Writers, Tasmania and Victoria, The Tasmanian Writer's centre and she is the vice-president of the Society of Women Writers Tasmania Inc.

no2abuse -

"Welcome to no2abuse

We hope you find many articles that will help you learn and understand the seriousness of child abuse and why we need your support. We hope changes can be made by you participating in those changes or learning about them so you can make changes.

We welcome and encourage group owners, forums and many other people out there to unite and work towards a safer place for our children and the future generation of children. Lets make this world a safer place for all children and work together. Please put up the button for no2abuse and link to our site. Spread the word and say no2abuse

The forum welcomes survivors, victims, children of today and tomorrow

For far too many years we were hidden away from society and the stigma that was given to children in care was a stigma we did not deserve. That stigma needs to change as does the government's attitude towards children in care and all children abused throughout the UK. Now the government are snatching babies and children in appauling ways to meet financial rewards for adoption targets.

I hear the government saying how they are making changes and are proud of the changes they have made but they haven't progressed as much as they proclaim because it is still going on today. Paedophilia is rife and because of the lack of concern from the government things haven't improved given we are now in 2008 and not the year BC.

Carers abuse more often and now abuse old people too. The sentences abusers recieve are so light that driving offences carry bigger sentences. If you tried to evade your tax the punishment is much higher than what sex offenders recieve. It's a bad message to give out to sex offenders and it's about time the government done something about it.

They have all the latest technology when it comes to protecting the tax payments, dss payments and the list goes on and yet their technology in the care system is so underfunded or non existent that paedophiles and sex offenders run amock in child care services untouched and unoticed until the damage is done. The system is so bad it can't keep track of abusers. Finger print workers so thay can't change their name and just move on somewhere else unoticed. Stop them moving from one sector to the other.

My heart goes out to the many survivors of such horrendous crimes. Staffordshire, Wales, London and the list goes on. What was the government thinking or doing when all this was going on? How did such mass abuse go unoticed for so many years?

I doubt it was unoticed, more like ignored. As young children from circumstances beyond our control we went out of the frying pan and was thrown into the fire. No child deserves that.

There is a book that I stumbled across because of the sir name of the author. It was a name of interest for me but it wasn't the same person as the initials were different but is a recommended read if you can get hold of it.

It's written by K S Perinpanayagam and is called a child is being beaten

It's a psychiatrists evaluation on children, his evaluations and what his opinion was on the government at the time and the governments role towards children in care, centres and control etc. Needless to say we all knew who was in power at the time. This book is a must to read as we rarely get to see what those working on the inside have to say be it positive or not and it makes for very interesting reading. I would like everyone's opinion on this book and I will make posts and take out parts of chapters and put them here for you to read. It makes for very interesting reading.

We have two choices in life...

Sit back and let our abusers win by giving up on ourselves

or

Find the strength and make something of our life and let them see that they didn't win, they didnt break us and stand up, be counted and support each other through this journey and help other children still in the system who need our support and to be the voice incase they are not being heard just like we wasn't heard nor listened too.

It's time for change "
