Chat Room Information and Links

Chat Shortcut is the recommended link that is posted on a NotePad in our Documents folder. Copy and paste that link into your browser and click Go. It is a smaller, fixed 651x522 size including header. When you get there, click on Favorites in your browser and bookmark it for future access. This is the preferred link as it bypasses the Open Roads Singles website which if down, will block access through the other links.
We also have two different window size options for our chat room, Large 800x600 or Medium 700x500 and those are links to them. Because the script is stored in a member only access Documents folder, you must first be signed into this website.
In all cases, you must have a current version of JavaScript downloaded to your computer. If you don't have it, that is a link to download it. You may have an older version in your computer so as a safeguard, delete it first in your Control Panel Add/Remove folder.
Once there with either link, you can drag the excess window size in to fit your monitor.
You can also click on the "Float and Dock" icon 
after you get into the chat room for an even smaller 600x400 window but closing the main window will close it too so minimize it to your task bar.
If you happen to get a blank page, "Page not found" error message or a large red X at the top right, click on Refresh on your browser or hit your F-5 key. If that does not work, click on Back on your browser to try it again. As a last resort, close the window and start over again.
If you still cannot access the chat room, send an e-mail to the manager and explain the problem.
The room will first start with the Java Script logo while loading the room with a "Loading....." indicator that can take awhile depending on your internet connection.. When that completes, there will be a sign in.
Sign in with your user name and adding your own name is optional but keep it short, 15 characters maximum. As it says, a password is optional but if you enter one, you will have to enter that same one each time or check the box for it to remember it for you. Be careful doing this as it will be a cookie on your computer and if you delete them in the future, it will no longer remember it for you!

Clicking on the Smiley will open a small window of them you can click to apply to the text entry window. You can also type the characters for the same effect such this illustrates
the Audio or 
button opens this:
just double click on one and it will paste itself into your text entry window or you can type the word with asterisks as shown.
The Text Size or 
buttons allow you to increase or decrease the size of the text
The Clear Screen or 
erases all text similar to "Clear Screen" in our old chat room.
The Time Stamp or 
adds the time to all posts.
The Audio On/Off or 
button turns the user sounds on or off
The "Float and Dock" or produces a smaller duplicate of the chat room. You cannot delete the main page however so minimize it to your task bar.
Hold your Ctrl key down as you click on the 
Help icon and it will open this page. You can also use it as a shortcut to our website.
The Exit or 
button does exactly that, closes the chat room for you! Use it wisely......
Right clicking on the window will give you a list of even more options such as text font type as shown here. This will change only for your screen however.
One more feature is that of the Private Chat. Simply double click or right click on a members name on the right panel and select Send Message. Both you and that member will get this small window for a private chat:
Clickable links can be posted but hold down the Ctrl key at the same time clicking on it to activate it.
and finally, right clicking on a member name in the right pane and selecting Ignore will eliminate all future posts by that person on your screen!
Member Search is a page with members names and locations.
Chat Room Juke Box has an assortment of golden oldies you can listen to while in the chat room plus links to website music collections and radio station streaming.
