Very early Peel Engineering GRP bodyshell, believed to be designated the Mark1. Photo taken on the bridge at the top of Peel Harbour, leading from the Kipper smoke houses to the Peel Engineering boathouse. Parking warden's nightmare? The Peel P50 appears in the Guinness Book of Records as the smallest road legal car in the world. It even had a carry handle. The wheel configuration soon reverted to two wheels at the front and one at the rear.
A Peel P50 will soon be on permanent display at the excellent Manx Transport Museum, The Brickworks Office, Mill Road, PEEL, Isle of Man. Admission is free.
Peel Trident: Luxury from the same chassis and DKW 49cc engine but a later version used a more powerful Triumph 98cc scooter engine giving a top speed of over 45 m.p.h (75kph). Is this Triumph "Tina" or later T10 engine, in fact a Villiers?
Still on the Isle of Man, Cyril Cannell and key company members George Gelling and Ernie Leece still take an active interest in the history of the items which they so skillfully created.
World Champion motorcyclist Geoff Duke was test driver for Peel Engineering's superb "Manx Kart" in 1960.
