A message from CPSTP . . .
CITIZENS FOR THE PRESERVATION OF SHELL TOOMER PARKWAY

We are sure that you appreciate the Charlotte and Curtis Ward Bike/Hike Path that winds through Shell Toomer Parkway. We seek your help in preserving the Parkway as a city-wide asset (and state-wide for that matter).

As you may be aware, the Parkway is a bona fide extension of Chewacla State Park and legal limits on its impingement
are part of the Alabama Code.

Recently, we believe that an impingement on the Parkway was illegally permitted by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources/DCNR when DCNR granted driveway access onto Shell Toomer Parkway to Cleveland Brothers Construction, in conjunction with development of the former Mitchell & Jackson properties.

CPSTP has no dispute with the development of this property, but do have significant concern about the damage to Shell Toomer Parkway, including the Charlotte and Curtis Ward pathway, that would result if accesses to Shell Toomer proliferate.  In this matter we need your help.  Specifically we ask that:

1.      (Most Important)  Please attend the upcoming City Council Meeting on Tuesday, February 6 to support the preservation of Shell Toomer Parkway.  We need to impress upon the City Council that this is a city-wide cause.

2.      Consider joining the Citizens for the Preservation of Shell Toomer Parkway (CPSTP).  This is the body which represents all citizens who want to keep Shell Toomer Parkway as undefiled State Park Property.  We need
members from throughout Auburn (and the State for that matter) to help us protect this wonderful public resource. Also, any suggestions for increasing our membership are welcome.

           Folks may join for $20 ($5 for students):

*         On-line at www.chewacla.net

*         Or, by mail (P.O. Box 2664, Auburn, AL 36831)

3.      Consider donating monetary contributions to the CPSTP (recently incorporated as a non-profit corporation) to aid in our lawsuit filed against DCNR for, in our opinion, illegally granting "driveway accesses" onto the Parkway to the Cleveland Brothers.  This is the major priority for us and funds are sorely needed for this litigation.  Contributions can also be submitted either via the website or P.O. Box 2664 as noted above.

Please forward this appeal to your friends. Getting this message out to others would be very helpful.

If you have any questions or comments, please contact CPSTP or citizens@chewacla.net or cpstp@chewacla.net.

Thank you for your help!
