THE PSPOT'S WEEKLY MUSIC TRIVIA CHALLENGE (PAGE I)

The Pspot's weekly music trivia is back! Each week, The Pspot will post at least one new advanced trivia question regarding Pspot related music (primarily garage, psychedelic, pop-sike, obscure pop & gum from 1964-1972). The questions will be directly from The Pspot or from original 60's band members who have supplied questions and answers related to the band or artists. Some will be illustrated, some will be multi-part, and others will even have a prize that will go to the first to answer correctly. The Pspot will leave ALL questions, answers and winners posted for future referral.

****PLEASE E-MAIL ALL YOUR ANSWERS OR COMMENTS TO pspotsville@hotmail.com ****

Only one answer per person per question is allowed.

And now, plug in your cerebral synapses and light up The Pspot Trivia page with your knowledge of music from THE BEST DECADE IN ROCK 'N ROLL!

The LP below is from 1963, and it contains a staple 60's classic originally sung and written by the woman on the cover. According to the artist, the inspiration for the song was when she saw a film circa 1960 called "On The Beach". Name the artist and the song that ended up being performed by many bands and artists to this day.

(Correct Scott Charbonneau!)

Answers: "Morning Dew"-Bonnie Dobson

Name the 60's band illustrated below from Saginaw, Michigan that released an ace garage-pop song off the USA label in 1968 that contained the lyrics, "You thought I was a fool, but look at me now. You broke all of the rules, it don't matter now."

(Scott Charbonneau aced this one right away!)

Answer: Cherry Slush "I Cannot Stop You"

The illustration below is from the front cover of the self-titled and first LP of a band whose country of origin's languages are English & Maori. The 1966 release contained a fuzz garage titan that was originally performed by the U.S. garage band The Changing Times, and remade 15 years later by an all-girl band. Name the band below, the all-girl band, the song and how high the song mentioned above charted in their country.

(Scott Charbonneau nailed this head-scratcher and Dale MacLeod answered 3 out of 4 correctly)

Answers: The La De Das, The Bangles, How Is The Air Up There?, #4 (New Zealand)

Name the band and the rare promo song from 1967 that is temporarily posted on February 22, 2004 in the 60's Aural Quiz folder in the Documents page (TriviaSong2). Hint: the band's country of origin's highest geological point is Zugspitze at 9,718 feet (2,962 meters). Also, what was the band promoting in this song? Hint: they were paid with the actual thing they were promoting, which was NOT too popular at that time!

***Thank you Cy for this great trivia question!***

Answer: "Five Or Six"-The Lords (Germany). The song was promoting PEPSI, and the band was paid with ten boxes of the sweet carbonated beverage. Nobody wanted to drink it at the time, as all the kids were drinking COKE!

Name the bass player (standing far right) from the illustration below that is on this 60's New Hampshire band's (The Electras) sole LP from 1961. Only 500 copies were pressed, and the bass player was recently quoted as saying, "We made a lot of noise.....it was a very good time."

***A big -thank you- goes out to Joe for this one***

Scott Charbonneau aced this one!

Answer: John Kerry!

Link the 1967 Rock 'n' Roll movie illustrated below to the actress shown below that was on a recent cover of T.V. Guide. Hint: She can be linked to a member of one of the band performers in the movie).

Scott Charbonneau nailed this question right away!

According to a classic 1966 Wolverine State garage 45, who is "Johnny Brown"?

Answer: He is the young man that is centered around the tragic A-side story song of Bob Seger & The Last Heard's first 45 "East Side Story" from 1966.

Name the 60's Pelican State Garage gem that is temporarily posted on February 1, 2004 in the 60's Aural Quiz folder in the Documents page. Also, name the band and what the song is about.

Answers: "Rebecca Rodifer"-The Gaunga Dyns.

According to band and Pspot member Steve Staples in the #18 issue of Misty Lane magazine: "The story was about a girl who lied about getting pregnant to get her boyfriend to marry her. He tells here she's got to get an abortion and being so ashamed and embarrassed that she lied about it she consents to having the abortion...and of course she dies from the procedure."

The 60's garage band below came from The Prairie State and released 5 singles from 1965-1967. The third 45 came with a cool picture sleeve, which is partially shown here. However, they are known best for their killer fuzzed-out second single from 1966. Name the band, their magnum opus second release AND what the song is about.
