  1. When you're pregnant, what are your biggest concerns? (Both without IH and with IH).
My biggest concerns were that either my IH would come back full swing and I would have headaches everyday and not be able to treat them or that somehow my shunt would be an issue with the pregnancy, like it would be pulled out or somehow have an effect on the baby.
  2. If you have been pregnant with IH, what treatments, if any, where you able to continue? (This applies to all meds - pain and meds such as Diamox, as well as LP's and shunts).
I have an LP Shunt so I wasnt taking any medications.
  3. What treatments needed to be modified?
None. However, in the last trimester towards the end my headaches came back with a vengenance and my midwife perscribed some Tylenol with Codene. It didnt work.
  4. If you have been pregnant with IH, how would you rate the overall pregnancy, in terms of "ease" (if there is such a thing!). Please rate on a 1-10 scale, 1 being the easiest, 10 being very difficult. (Remember, in relation to IH and associated symptoms/conditions).
Sometimes the headaches were really bad, sometimes I forgot I even had IH and the pregnancy had its rough moments, but nothing I can complain about.
  5. Have you had children prior to IH diagnosis? Was that pregnancy the same, easier, or more difficult?
I had one child prior to being diagnosed. That pregnancy was alot harder then this one. I had lots of complications. I had Eclampsia, HELLP, and Placental Abruption and delivered at 35 weeks. This pregnancy I had none of those things and I delivered at almost 40
    weeks by scheduled c-section.
  6. Did you experience remission while pregnant? Were your IH symptoms less noticeable, or were you more aware of them?
I have an LP Shunt so I rarely have any symptoms to begin with. However, when I did get headaches, they were the same ol' IH headaches that I normaly get. Just not as often.
  7. If you experienced an ease in symptoms during your pregnancy, did they develop again after giving birth? If they did, how long after delivery did they develop?
So far, everything has stayed the same.
  8. If you've answered the above questions (you were pregnant with IH), how was the baby delivered? (Example, C-Section).
My baby was delivered by scheduled c-section, however, I was put under general anesthia due to all the back surgeries and spinal taps Ive had because of IH.
  9. How many people (this applies to everyone), were advised they couldn't or shouldn't get pregnant with IH? What was the reasoning for this advice?
I was told shouldnt because it could possibly pull the shunt out. Now, it took us three years to get pregnant so I dont know if that has anything to do with IH.
  10. Would you have another baby with IH (without thought to cost or situation - would you do it again?)
    Absolutely.
  11. What advice and tips would you offer someone who becomes pregnant with IH? Someone considering it?
Good luck, take care of your body and listen to it. Being under a doctors constant care is always a good idea, especially when you are responsible for another being growing inside of you. And, in the end, its so worth it.
