| The Second Pills Anonymous Roundup 2008 has been scheduled for September 26 through 28, 2008 at the Mission Palms Hotel in Tempe, Arizona. Tempe is a suburb of Phoenix. The purpose of this meeting is to continue the committee (and participate in the fellowship in the way of PA meetings and fun) work we began at first Roundup in March, 2008. We currently have a block of 10 rooms at a rate of $99.00 per night - Single/Double occupancy. Please click on this link: September Roundup Tempe Mission Palms Hotel to read the agreed contract for using their facility. Note: Hospitality Fees; Reservations (an this may a good reason to book your room early if you plan on staying here. We have been verbally told that other rooms are may be available at this rate, so a friendly suggestion that it would be better to not wait until the last minute to make your reservations); Check in/out times; Gratuities; and Cancellations terms. There will also be a one time fee for attending to address the costs of such things as the conference room rental fee (don't forget those of you who are passing a second 7th tradition basket at your face to face meetings to anyone who may want to contribute to the Roundup); coffee, soft drinks, water, office supplies etc. This fee will be based on the number of people attending, so at this writing we are unable to determine the amount. However, if we have near the turnout we had at our March 2008 Roundup, this will be somewhere in the ballpark of $20 - $25 per person. Committees were formed at the first PA National Roundup to address the following:
1. Started the process of making Pills Anonymous a World Central Service Organization. Lot's of legal "stuff" goes into this and we have some extremely knowledgeable people, who are heading and working on this committee. Larry H. of PA in Phoenix is chairman of this committee.
2. Work on our text (similar to what AA has as its' Big Book and NA's basic text). As some of you may already know, there was a rough draft of a book, some of which is likely to end up in the final version. However, at this time, the Book Committee has agreed on contents and a format. More information will be released about that soon, but for now, anyone interested in potentially submitting a story for the book must first contact committee chair Jonathan B., jonathan@pillsanonymous.com, for guidelines.
3. Our Common Welfare group is addressing issues of verbiage for the steps/traditions/concepts and other PA approved material and meeting format. This committee is chaired by Denise S., a/k/a Sammy, and great strides are taking place regarding these issues that all who attended will take back to their home groups.
4. An Ad Hoc Committee was created for the sole purpose of those who were unable to attend our first Roundup and wish to attend and participate in the second Roundup. A membership registration for the Second National PA Roundup will be posted soon with contact information for you to submit this too. Be sure if you are returning member that you indicate which Committee you are working with. If this is the first time you are attending, check the Ad Hoc committee and we will have a representative contact you to bring you up to date on the different committees and where your interests may lie of greatest benefit to PA as a whole. Be sure to fill in your email address and phone number, with best time to call, on the membership registration in order to be contacted.
5. We also have a logo contest going out to all, who would like to submit a design for a PA logo to go on our text, other printed material, chips, etc. We decided to go with Honesty, Open-mindedness, and Willingness as the three principles to associate with our logo. We know there are a lot of very creative and talented people out there and if anyone is interested in submitting a design, please do so. Please see the Roundup board, Logo thread, for further discussion of this.
One more item of discussion regarding the Ad Hoc committee for those who may want attend the second Roundup is that group conscious voted that if a person does want to be part of this groundbreaking history in PA the second Phoenix Roundup will be the time when one should attend.
