The first edition of Pinpoint magazine was published by The West Midlands Council For Disabled People in 1981 (International Year Of Disabled People). In the early 1990s the organisation changed it's name to Disability West Midlands and continued to publish Pinpoint.
Pinpoint became well-known throughout the West Midlands region as a publication which kept disabled people in the region informed about issues and news affecting their lives.
Disability West Midlands grew into a leading user-led disability organisation, but in April 2005 it hit a financial crisis and went into administration. It was a devastating event and by March 2006 DWM had closed it's offices and all of it's staff had been made redundant.
The last edition of Pinpoint magazine was published in the autumn of 2005. As the editor of Pinpoint magazine for the past 10 years and as the founder of this website, I would like to keep Pinpoint Online going as an archive of disability history and culture. As the last member of staff to be made redundant from Disability West Midlands I have made sure that a lot of our historical material has been rescued and preserved and I feel it is important to make this material available to anyone interested in disability heritage.
Whilst Pinpoint Online can no longer claim to be the representative voice of Disability West Midlands, the website can still function as a live conduit for news and discussion about current issues. I hope that you will continue to visit and support the site and have an input into it's future development.
