Hiking - Waipio Valley

Neal Morisato, Lou Gudiel, Chris Robinson and myself did the gruelling hike down Waipio after arriving at the Kona Airport. This was the 1st day and the day before the contest. We met Californians Wild Bill Osgood and Jim Callahan on the bottom of the valley. Click on the link below to view 58 pictures before we ended our day at the Blue Dolphin Club.

We saw snow-capped Mauna Kea volcano; almost got arrested by DLNR for bodysurfing at Haupuna Beach without a permit; bodysurfed Waipio Valley, Magic Sands (Kona) and mystical Kua Bay; we searched for the infamous break "Secrets"; we partied at Kawaihai at the Blue Dolphin Club & Waikaloa at the Aston Shores Condos with Wild Bill Osgood, Shred (a.k.a. Julie Davis), Leona, and Jim Callahan (aka Capt. Morgan Rum); we ate with Sam Choy for breakfast before departing the Big Island. This was my first trip to the Big Island of Hawaii. It was a great experience.

We went to Sam Choy's after a bodysurfing sesh at Kua Bay before departing the Big Island.
Sam Choy loves to talk about the surf and the ocean. He used to surf back in the day.
