Welcome to the Community for past and present residents of my home town of Prestwick and neighbouring village of Monkton, Ayrshire in Scotland. The Community is open for anyone to read, but to participate and place postings to the message board you require to apply to join the Community. The purpose of the Community is to enable the past and present residents of Prestwick and Monkton to chat with each and exchange memories and facts and to research details about the two locations. In the Photo Album you will find a series of pictures of the town and for the golfers there is a sequence of drawings of the layout of 5 old courses of the town - can anyone put a date to these? You will also find some old pictures of the town dated around the late 1930's. Please feel free to add any pictures of Prestwick Yester year if you have them. Do you remember some of the old names around the town? Newsagents Albert Robertson and Jimmy Young, Willie Haggart and his ironmongers business, Carles, the bakery, Archibald Hogg, fishmonger, Robert Tognarelli and his ice cream, the SMT office at The Cross, Girdwoods the bakers to mention but a few. I have two pages on the town of Prestwick at the moment, links to which can be found to the right of this welcome message. Monkton has also got an entry with some pictures of the village. A new addition, on another site at http://www.allayrshire.co.uk/pwk/pwktrivia.htm - a series of pictures of various objects in the town for people to rack their mind on. You can email your answer back to the webmaster from a link on the page. Please do drop by and have a look at these and various other towns and villages in Ayrshire. |
