What Happened

The aircraft number 1 system gyro faulted - giving false information to the Captains horizontal situation indicator.

"Budda Green was operating and the one responsible for "saving the bar". Also as I remember it was the Captain that was woken up to come back on duty and saw his artificial horizon malfunction and instead of looking at the other two on the instrument panel "corrected" the bad one and consequently put the aircraft into a steep fall.
