| Colin Burgess CSM (Retired) Colin Burgess Bio............. Colin Burgess began his Qantas life in June 1970 as a Traffic Officer at Sydney International Terminal. In November 1972 he changed careers to that of a Fifth Steward, flying on 707 and 747 aircraft.  5th Flight Steward Colin Burgess 1972 Just under thirty years later, in February 2002, he left under a voluntary redundany package, having served as a Flight Service Director/Customer Service Manager for some 18 years. During his time in cabin crew Col had a vast number of involvements:- -
He was part of the annual cabin crew revue team. -
The editor of the crew magazine, "Transit". -
Later co-editor of "Up the Track". -
He was also known as a prolific cartoonist. -
Worked for several years as part of the Cabin Crew Team. -
As well as the Recreation Club. -
He has been with the Pathfinders Auxiliary of the Deaf and Blind Childrens' Association since the mid-1970s. These days Col still works for the Pathfinders, and together with Peter Owens runs the immensely popular Pathfinders Trivia Nights. He is the author of the very popular, best-selling "Laughter in the Air" and "More Laughter in the Air" - hilarious tales from the history of Qantas. In 1988 he also wrote the official abridged history of Qantas, "Pioneers of Flight". In 1985 Col's first book, "The Diggers of Colditz" was published, and released simultaneously in Australia and England. He has now had a total of 14 non-fiction books published, is working on two more, and has just been appointed series editor for an eight-book history of space exploration to be published by the University of Nebraska Press in the United States.
