Red Hawk Medicine Drum is an all women's drum group. We are led by Creator to follow the Red Road. We drum in honor of Mother Earth and all of Creation. Each of us has some native ancestry but no tribal affiliation.

The Drum and its music are are powerful medicine. We pray that we bring healing to the Mother Earth and all who live here. Being an all female group, our music has its own unique energy.

The Drum was opened  in 1996 with the guidance and teachings of a Mic Mac elder. The members of our team regularly fast and sweat for this Drum. We consider it an honor and priveledge to be a part of this group. Each of us make offerings  of tobacco and prayers before we drum and sing. We teach our children the ways of our elders. We teach them to respect and honor others as well as themselves. We honor and protect our Drum by allowing no alcohol or drugs around it.

While based in Waterville, Maine, Red Hawk Medicine Drum has traveled extensively throughout New England and parts of Canada. We have played at numerous powwows, spiritual  gatherings, weddings and passovers. We also visit nursing homes, churches and participate in civic events. We enjoy visiting schools  and incorporate an educational program into our performance. Our children accompany us to most events and offer a terriffic display of traditional and fancy dancing.

Red Hawk Medicine Drum promotes family values. We are supporters of women's and children's issues. We collect goods for our local shelters here in Maine. We advocate sobriety and a drug free lifestyle.  We encourage better education of our children and families. We try to educate the public about issues concerning the indegenous peoples of the Americas, both past and present. We want to bring positive attention to Native Americans to promote greater understanding of their rich and beautiful cultures.

We appreciate your interest in us. Please visit the rest of our site. For a list of engagements, please view our calendar. For more information, please contact our Drumkeeper, Ellie, at redhawkmedicinedrum@hotmail.com.

All my relations, Taho
