Why this emphasis on creativity, art, aesthetic beauty, and grace?
The historical Tantric masters were artists. Not only was music very important to them but so was poetry, aestheticism, the formal beauty of creation, and the inner tremoring vibration caused by aesthetic emotion – the coming into vibration of the person. When we listen to music, when we are in front of a painting, or when we are completely engrossed by any creative expression, it dissolves us, and our sense of separation disappears. We are then in the tremoring vibration of consciousness.
Sensitivity to the arts leads to acute perception of the beauty of everyday life. At this moment our entire life becomes the expression of an art that is perpetually renewing itself. Once we penetrate deeply into the human fabric, comparisons with art become vital, because the Tantric quest is precisely to transform life into a work of art. In a sense, we become transformed, like the caterpillar, into a butterfly – we become a beautiful "Tantric butterfly."
