What Is "Rainbow Tantra"?

Historically, the rainbow has always been a sign of hope, a colorful arc of beauty that connects Earth to Heaven and humans to God(s), or the Universe.   It is this rainbow that was the inspiration for the name of our community for a couple of reasons. 

First, with the hope that our community will bridge the various traditions of Tantra.   Second, because what these traditions, along with several other spiritual traditions and healing practices, all have in common is the Chakra system.    Each Chakra, and its corresponding organ(s) and endocrine gland, has a certain energy frequency associated with one of the seven colors of the rainbow.

A Chakra is a spinning vortex of energy created within ourselves by the inter-penetration of consciousness and the physical body.  The word "Chakra" comes from the Sanskrit word for "wheel" and originated within the philosophy of the ancient yoga system of Tantra in India.   There are seven major Chakras arranged vertically along the spine, starting at the base of the spine and ending at the top of the head.   In the psychological realm, the Chakras correspond to major areas of our lives, such as survival, sex, power, love, communication, perception and understanding. 

 

Each Chakra has a corresponding layer of aura, the electromagnetic field that surrounds our bodies.   These layers of aura interpenetrate and form a seven-layered higher energy field around the physical body, an energy field that supports all the various facets of our worldly life and which is a direct indicator of our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual state of being.   When Chakras are jammed up, or too open, they cause a break or an open wound in our aura.    It will manifest itself finally as a disease in the physical body.   However, when each Chakra vibrates to its full force and color, it supports the path of spiritual enlightenment and the path of manifestation.   It gives us power to heal, create and serve.

Together, the seven Chakras form a connecting ladder between matter and consciousness, body and mind, Earth and Heaven.   Each of us forms this ladder as the steps are found within us.   In order for us to be whole, the ladder must be complete.   Therefore, each Chakra is of equal importance, and the blocking of one Chakra can make an excess or deficiency in another part of the system.   With our Chakras opened and fully functioning, we ourselves form the rainbow bridge between Heaven and Earth, ever evolving towards realization and integration.    To walk the "Rainbow Bridge" is to reclaim our own divinity and bring Heaven down to Earth, where it is so desperately needed at this time.  Earth is our home, where Spirit matters, and matter is an embodiment of Spirit.

The ancient Tantrics believed that the way to enlightenment is through the rising of the Kundalini, often depicted as a coiled serpent, located at the root Chakra at the base of the spine.   When the Kundalini is awakened (through yoga, breathing, meditation, visualization, or Tantric sexual union), as it ascends the spine to the crown Chakra located at the top of the head, it passes through all seven Chakras opening and purifying them.   So Tantra teaches lovers how to balance and harmonize their energies and to be on the same wavelength, creating a measurable resonance between their energy fields.

During Tantra, the energy we generate that activates our Kundalini and Chakras will make our bodies become superbly intelligent because they align the body with the spirit, or higher self.   Because emotions are stored in the body, emotional healing can happen very quickly through Tantra.   However, there is no such thing as a spiritual shortcut.

Simultaneous to any Kundalini awakening, we must constantly train our emotions and minds to contain the evolvement of our bodies.  Disciplining the mind is the most important aspect of preparing for the Kundalini awakening.   Without proper preparation, Kundalini can be painful.  Just as Kundalini will increase positive characteristics within us, it will also very quickly amplify every negative tendency we have.   Its purpose is to cleanse us.
