... About Us ...
Our symbol, the orange ribbon, was first devised by RSDSA ~ the RSD Association of America, as a fundraising tool and a universally recognisable symbol. The colour represents the often-times burning and fiery nature of our pain. (The picture on this page is my own representation of that symbol. All are welcome to download it and use it - all I ask is that you credit our group as its source).
Our community has been in operation for nearly four years now and we have over 235 current members from all over the English-speaking world. Our community was the first of its kind anywhere online -- when we started in September 2001, there was nowhere else where those affected by RSD/CRPS could come together and chat or email others on a personal, one-to-one, daily basis. We filled a void that desperately needed to be filled and our members remind us of that all the time. We have been told so often, all too often, "you saved my life", and until there is a broad-based, common knowledge of RSD/CRPS 'out there' and no one ever feels alone with this nightmare of a disease, I know we will continue to be needed.
We are part of (indeed, our Managers began) the only 'official' Australian RSD group - The RSD Association of Australia, and that is currently in the process of being approved for not-for-profit fund-raising and donation/taxation benefits by the Australian government. Our managers live in Australia, but because we are a web-based community, we actually have no set location and are really an international group.
Please, enjoy our Community and if you wish to join, you would be most welcome -- help us spread the word.
I must make mention of, and indeed thank, five very special women:-
'Baker', my Mum, who runs this community for us all when I am unable ... ah, amongst other things ~ she's also my full-time carer, confidante, best friend, banker, secretary, chauffeur, nurse and all-round keeper; Lynette, my sister, best friend and private comedienne, who always makes me laugh, and also helps run the community when I am unable - which is most of the time; Leanne, my friend and our longest 'serving' member; and finally Tayla, my d-d-duckie, and Chloe, my special Angel -- my girls (they're actually Lynette's daughters, but shhh ... I plan to keep them
), who give me something to live for. Thank you ladies ... actually no -- thank you will never be enough.
But thanks must go to all our members for making our community the very special, loving and supportive place it is.
My fondest regards to all,
Robyn
