Latest Glens news

Wednesday 25th June 2008 - The Glens have strengthened their squad even further with the signings of Blantyre Victoria midfield pair Colin Boylan and Ryan McArdle.

The club have also agreed a deal with Mitchell's Hire Drive in Glasgow Road for sponsorship of the team for season 2008-09. The deal will see the local firm supply The Glens with strips, suits and training gear for the new season. Quoted in The Rutherglen Reformer, Stuart Cochran, a manager at Mitchell’s, said, “Of course we are delighted to be helping the local community. That’s something we have been heavily involved in. The chairman’s son is a massive football fan and likes to contribute when he can. We’re investing heavily in Glencairn and hopefully that’s us on board for a long time.”

The draw was made today for the opening round of the West of Scotland Cup and The Glens were drawn away to Ayrshire District League side Craigmark Burntonians. The match will take place at Station Park in Dalmellington on Saturday 20th September 2008, with kick-off at 2pm.

Pre-season training for The Glens starts on Wednesday 2nd July 2008.

Thursday 19th June 2008 - The Glens have strengthened their playing squad with a number of new signings. Stephen McGladrigan, the club's top goalscorer for season 2006-07 with 19 goals, has rejoined the club after a short spell at Shotts Bon Accord. Stephen O'Keane (midfielder) and Carlo Rea (left-sided defender) have joined from Cumbernauld United. Brian Imrie (midfielder) and Craig Murphy (right-sided defender) have joined from Knightswood Juveniles u-21s. Thomas Hoey (midfielder) has joined from Tower Hearts u-21s, and Richie Burke (left-sided midfielder/attacker) has joined from St Peter's u-21s.

There are also a few other potential signings from junior clubs which look likely to be confirmed shortly.

Lee McShane has left the club to join Beith Juniors, and Joe Hayes has also left the club. We wish them both well and thank them both for their contribution to The Glens. Lee will be remembered fondly for his winning goal in the Central Sectional League Cup Final last season.

Two more pre-season friendlies have now been arranged. On Wednesday 30th July 2008, The Glens will play Kirkintilloch Rob Roy at Adamslie Park in Kirkintilloch (kick-off time to be confirmed), and on Saturday 2nd August 2008 The Glens will meet Annbank United at New Pebble Park in Annbank, with kick-off at 2pm.

Friday 13th June 2008 - The Glens' pre-season friendly against East Region side Fauldhouse United on Saturday 26th July 2008 will now be played away from home at Park View in Fauldhouse, with kick-off at 2pm.

Thursday 5th June 2008 - Glencairn FC are pleased to announce that the official opening of New Southcroft Park will be on Saturday 19th July 2008 when The Glens will host SFL side and former neighbours Clyde. The Scottish League Division One side have confirmed that they will be sending their 1st team squad for the match.

Saturday 31st May 2008 - The Glens' season ended in a frustrating 1-0 defeat at home to Hurlford United in the preliminary round of the Evening Times Cup today. (Click here for pictures and a full match report.)

Monday 26th May 2008 - Rutherglen Glencairn Football Club held its Annual General Meeting this evening, the first official meeting of all the members of the football club since the opening of the new Rutherglen Glencairn Football Social Club in Glasgow Road.

Team managers Scott Smith and Willie Patterson were unanimously confirmed as team managers for season 2008-09 and received a warm round of applause from the members for their efforts during the season, including a trophy being brought back to Rutherglen for the first time in eight years.

Mr Alex Deacon has been elected as the club's new President, his second spell in the position. Mr Brian Marchant was appointed as Vice President. After a break of two years from the role, Mr Alex Forbes returns to his familiar role as the club's General Secretary. The role of Football Treasurer goes to Mr Sam Totten, with Mr Eddie Smith appointed as Social Secretary and Mr Peter Sinclair appointed as Social Treasurer.

Friday 23rd May 2008 - The Glens bowed out of the Whyte and MacKay West of Scotland Cup tonight after a 4-0 quarter-final defeat away to Stageacoach Super Premier League side Beith Juniors. (Click here for a full match report.)

Monday 19th May 2008 - The Glens ended their league season tonight with a 0-0 draw away to bottom side St Roch's in a game that had no bearing on any promotion or relegation issues. The Glens finish in 4th place in the league table, which is a creditable performance for a side who have played the whole season without a home ground.

Meanwhile, The Glens now know who they will meet in the preliminary round of the Evening Times Cup, after Hurlford United won 2-0 away at Girvan tonight to claim the Ayrshire District League championship. A date has yet to be confirmed for that match.

Saturday 17th May 2008 - The Glens went down to a 4-0 defeat away to now promoted Lanark United in the league today. All of the goals came in the first half.
